Mike Tomlin will once again look to lead his Pittsburgh Steelers back into contender status in the NFL, despite a series of recent roster changes. On top of that, news broke of the departure of a key piece of the lineup—who is heading to a direct rival in the AFC North.
After spending the last three seasons in black and yellow, Damontae Kazee has officially closed the chapter on his time in Pittsburgh and is set to suit up for a new team next season. The veteran safety will be taking his talents to Kevin Stefanski’s squad—the Cleveland Browns.
The news was first reported by NFL insider Mike Garafolo, who announced the significant move between two classic division rivals via his official account on X (formerly Twitter).
“The #Browns are signing veteran S Damontae Kazee today, source says. After three years with the #Steelers, Kazee heads elsewhere in the AFC North,” the Insider reported via @MikeGarafolo.

Damontae Kazee #23 of the Pittsburgh Steelers at SoFi Stadium on October 22, 2023 in Inglewood, California.
During his time in Pittsburgh, the former San Diego State standout recorded five interceptions and 112 total tackles over three seasons. He also led the NFL in interceptions back in 2018 while playing for the Falcons.
Signs pointing to Rodgers landing in Pittsburgh?
The Aaron Rodgers saga regarding a potential move to Pittsburgh is still far from over, but recent controversial reports have only fueled speculation about his future with the Steelers.
The former Super Bowl champion with the Packers remains silent about any decision, keeping speculation about a potential move to Mike Tomlin’s Steelers very much alive.
As the days go by, the veteran quarterback continues to delay his call about his short-term future, keeping the NFL world on edge as this ongoing storyline shows no signs of ending anytime soon.
