With the upcoming NFL season on the horizon, Mike Tomlin's Pittsburgh Steelers have lost a key defensive player—one who’s now headed to a direct rival in the AFC North.

Mike Tomlin will once again look to lead his Pittsburgh Steelers back into contender status in the NFL, despite a series of recent roster changes. On top of that, news broke of the departure of a key piece of the lineup—who is heading to a direct rival in the AFC North.

After spending the last three seasons in black and yellow, Damontae Kazee has officially closed the chapter on his time in Pittsburgh and is set to suit up for a new team next season. The veteran safety will be taking his talents to Kevin Stefanski’s squad—the Cleveland Browns.

The news was first reported by NFL insider Mike Garafolo, who announced the significant move between two classic division rivals via his official account on X (formerly Twitter).

“The #Browns are signing veteran S Damontae Kazee today, source says. After three years with the #Steelers, Kazee heads elsewhere in the AFC North,” the Insider reported via @MikeGarafolo.

During his time in Pittsburgh, the former San Diego State standout recorded five interceptions and 112 total tackles over three seasons. He also led the NFL in interceptions back in 2018 while playing for the Falcons.
