NFL News: Vikings could still reportedly choose Aaron Rodgers over J.J. McCarthy

In a very surprising twist, the Minnesota Vikings may still be considering Aaron Rodgers, despite the growing buzz around J.J. McCarthy as their future starting quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers is still an option for the Minnesota Vikings, according to information from Mike Florio. Despite several reports that closed the door on that possibility, Florio clarified that this only applies to the near future, as anything can happen before the start of the season.

“If, for some reason, they have concerns that McCarthy is not the guy, they can swing back to Rodgers later. They’re spending a lot of time telling everyone that everything is fine with J.J. McCarthy. Knee is fine. No concerns. Good to go. He is our guy. We’ll see if ensuing events bear that out.”

The veteran is not considering retirement at the moment and is patiently waiting for the team that offers him the best opportunity to compete for one last Super Bowl. The Vikings have a roster superior to that of the Pittsburgh Steelers or the New York Giants.

Where is Aaron Rodgers going to end up?

Aaron Rodgers might end up going to the Minnesota Vikings, according to Florio. His plan would be to wait for training camp to pass and for head coach Kevin O’Connell to realize that J.J. McCarthy is not ready to lead a high-caliber offense with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

“I think he knows what he’s doing. He is making a bet that maybe what they see from J.J. McCarthy between April and June is going to cause them to say: ‘You know, I’ve been standing on the sidelines for the past several years as an offensive coordinator and a head coach and I’ve seen what Aaron Rodgers can do.’ The Vikings just played Aaron Rodgers and the Jets in London last year. Aaron Rodgers has supreme confidence in his skills.”
