Like many teams, the New York Giants are currently in the middle of shaping their roster, with moves happening on a daily basis. This time, the one affected is none other than Jaxson Dart, who has just lost a key player ahead of the upcoming NFL season.

After a somewhat turbulent start to the season, James Hudson will no longer remain in the Big Apple. As reported by insider Paul Schwartz through his X account, the offensive tackle was released by the New York franchise.

The former Browns player joined the Giants last season after being selected by Cleveland in the fourth round (110th overall) of the 2021 Draft. Now, his NFL career will take a different path.

A difficult season for Hudson in NY

James Hudson’s tenure with the New York Giants ended as a cautionary tale of how quickly a lucrative deal can unravel on the field. After joining the team on a two-year, $12 million contract to provide veteran stability at tackle, his season effectively collapsed during a nightmare sequence in Week 2 against Dallas.

In an unprecedented meltdown, Hudson became the first player in over two decades to rack up four penalties in just six snaps during a single possession, a performance so disastrous it essentially exiled him to the bench for the remainder of the year.

With only one offensive snap recorded over the following fourteen games, his departure became inevitable; by cutting ties now, the Giants successfully reclaim $5.38 million in much-needed cap space while turning the page on one of the most statistically bizarre collapses in recent franchise history.

Protection for Dart

To safeguard Jaxson Dart’s future, the Giants might use their 2026 first-round pick on an elite offensive tackle. Following James Hudson’s collapse, experts suggest targeting a top prospect like Spencer Fano from Utah. Solidifying the offensive line is seen as the highest priority to ensure Dart can build on his impressive rookie campaign and reach his All-Pro potential.
