The Calgary Flames are shaping their roster for the 2025–26 NHL season after a promising campaign for the franchise, which features Rasmus Andersson as their standout defenseman and current star player. In line with that, management has decided to make a final decision regarding a center who previously arrived from the Philadelphia Flyers.
The offseason tested the Flames‘ determination to build a strong offensive core. On the back end, Andersson brings stability and leadership on the blue line, providing a solid defensive foundation. However, one key move was still needed to strengthen their attack.
Facing mild interest from teams like the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Islanders, Calgary acted quickly and secured an extension with a key forward for the upcoming season. The Flames continue to reinforce their young core, building a more balanced and competitive team.
Which player extended his contract with the Flames?
The forward who renewed his deal with the Flames is none other than center Morgan Frost, whom they acquired at the trade deadline from the Flyers. Frost signed a two-year, $8.75 million contract (AAV of $4.375 million). He will remain with Calgary through the 2027 season.

Frost had arrived from the Flyers alongside Joel Farabee in exchange for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, and several draft picks. In Calgary, he played 32 games, scoring 3 goals and adding 9 assists, totaling 37 points combined with both teams over 81 games.

What can Frost bring to the Flames?
Morgan Frost is a creative and skilled center with excellent vision and puck-handling ability. While he doesn’t stand out for his physicality, he has improved his defensive and physical contributions in recent years. In Calgary, he is expected to continue developing as a solid second- or third-line player, with the potential to move into the top six in certain rotations.
