A new report provides more clarity about Mitch Marner’s future in the 2025–26 NHL season amid an imminent departure from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Mitch Marner is close to becoming a free agent after a long stint as a star with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and all signs point to him seeking a new destination for the 2025–26 NHL season. As a result, the offseason is expected to bring important updates soon.

Among the possible scenarios for Marner’s future, several franchises are considered capable of offering the estimated $14 million per year it would take to sign the 28-year-old forward. Multiple franchises are looking to make a move for such a highly sought-after player.

One of Marner’s known preferences is to make a major change in scenery amid imminent exit from Toronto, including not signing with any other Canadian franchise next season. At the same time, it has surfaced that he would favor the Florida Panthers as a potential destination.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shed light on the situation, stating on the 32 Thoughts Podcast: “If Mitch Marner leaves Toronto, I think he’s going to a Western Conference team,” referring to the Toronto star’s possible landing spot.

What are Marner’s potential destinations?

The Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings are seen as the most competitive options in the short term. The Anaheim Ducks are reportedly preparing a record-breaking offer to land Marner. Other teams like the Columbus Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks may also present big-money offers, though with fewer guarantees of immediate success.
