Javier Chicharito Hernández joined Los Angeles Galaxy to take Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s place as the team’s main man in attack and become one of the league’s best signings in 2020. It is impossible not to compare the former Manchester United striker with Carlos Vela, Los Angeles FC forward who has already showed what he is capable of in the MLS. Now, the Mexicans will be rivals.

Vela also had his experience in Europe, in Spain’s La Liga and England’s Premier League. However, there’s no doubt that he found his best form when he arrived at Los Angeles. The forward is considered one of the best attackers of the league and, although he couldn’t win the MLS Cup with his team, he claimed many individual awards. He even set a new single-season scoring record in 2019 with his 34 goals in 31 games.

Now, Vela will have a compatriot competing in the other LA team. Everyone knows how important Chicharito’s career was for Mexican soccer. After his stint in Manchester United, he played for Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham and Sevilla. His European journey finally finished and now it’s time for him to show his skills in the MLS.

However, he won’t have an easy task, considering he has to replace Ibrahimovic, another goal-scoring machine in the MLS. LA Galaxy is not expecting Hernández to surpass Vela’s record or score more goals than Zlatan did. But his team-play will be the key to have a successful season with his new club.

After his outstanding 2019 season, fans are expecting more goals from Vela, and he will probably keep scoring for LAFC. Matching his latest record will be quite difficult, though. There’s no doubt that the MLS will have a great duel between two of the best Mexican strikers and everyone is expecting to see who will be more successful.
