The Premier League and the FA Cup winners face each other annually in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium. In case the Premier League champions also win the FA Cup, they will play the runners-up in the league. As a competitive super cup contest, both the English Football Association and UEFA acknowledge this event.
The Charity Shield was its prior name. As a result of the replacement of the Sheriff of London Charity Shield in 1908/09, the FA Charity Shield took on its current shape. The current reigning champions, Arsenal defeated Liverpool 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the 2019/20 edition.
Having won the competition 21 times, Manchester United hold the record for most victories. Another milestone they have is having the most appearances (30) and defeats (9). With 15 victories and one draw, Arsenal is placed second, while Liverpool comes in third with 10 victories and five draws (8 outright wins, one shared).
Community Shield 2021 prize money: How much does the champion get?
The team that wins the FA Cup this season will receive a financial boost, but it will be substantially less than the club that won it last season. After being doubled in the 2018/19 season, and the sum remained even larger in the 2019/20 season, the prize money for the Community Shield has been reduced to its original cost for the 2020/21 season.
Other clubs and non-profit organizations share the prize money. Compared to the FA Community Shield, the Spanish Super Cup prize money is 50 percent higher. No official information is available on the amount of television income paid to the clubs. Also, both teams involved in the final match rarely release any information regarding the income split from ticket sales.
This year's FA Cup totals £15,9 million. This money is divided among the competitors based on their performance during the contest. As the cup progresses, the prize money grows. The closer a team goes to the final, the bigger the prize money. For instance, a club will earn a £1,125 bonus if they win the additional preliminary round. A total of £1.8 million ($2.4 million) will be added to their account if they become the champions.
