Lionel Messi may be one of the biggest legends who have played for FC Barcelona but his departure from the club was far from ideal. In a shocking turn of events, the La Liga giants could not afford to renew his contract just days before the season began and the Argentine star ended up at PSG.

His last season in Spain wasn't one to remember either, as Barca have only won a Copa del Rey title and fell short in the La Liga title race in disappointing fashion. But the club apparently wants to make amends with one of its greatest idols.

According to Sport and Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are considering a tribute to Lionel Messi in 2024. It's uncertain where the club's record goalscorer will be by then, as his Paris Saint-Germain deal expires in 2023.

It would be safe to say that the bond between Messi and Barcelona is unbreakable. However, it's also true that a legend like Messi could have left the club in much better terms considering everything they've lived together for more than two decades.

That's why Joan Laporta and his board are apparently considering the idea of paying a tribute to the Argentine at the Camp Nou in September 2024, when the club will celebrate its 125th anniversary.

Besides, the front office expects the stadium's renovations to be completed by then, making it the ideal date to make this happen. They still have to figure out what kind of event they'd make, but one thing seems to be for sure: Barcelona want to rebuild their relationship with Lionel Messi, despite Laporta said he had no option but to let him leave in the summer.
