Once again, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba/jimmy-garoppolo-makes-bold-statement-about-his-future-20220203-0005.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">San Francisco 49ers</a> managed to go deep in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/nfl-2021-22-playoff-format-how-the-football-postseason-will-be-played-20210913-0019.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">playoffs</a> despite not having an explosive offense. Their <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/49ers-news-kyle-shanahan-speaks-up-on-jimmy-garoppolo-future-20220131-0007.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">doubts at the quarterback position</a> haunted them all year long and eventually doomed their chances.
Jimmy Garoppolo performed fairly better than expected during the regular season but could never find his groove in the playoffs. Moreover, Kyle Shanahan didn’t seem too eager to put the ball in his, hands to begin with.
The Niners made Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell the focal points of their offense and, while it worked more often than not, Niners’ legend <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/Top-50-greatest-quarterbacks-in-NFL-history-20200522-0001.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Steve Young</a> thinks it showed a lack of confidence in their QB.

“When he joined the team, the team needed a quarterback to make some throws, and they didn’t have that,” Young told KNBR’s “Tolbert, Krueger and Brooks”. “Jimmy can make throws, he’s a starting quarterback in the league. How far he can go, I feel like in the end was limited by the trust between Kyle and Jimmy. It never got completely established like I wish it would have. In the end, both guys have to own that, and Jimmy does as well.”
“And so where does he fit in the pantheon of 49ers quarterbacks? We’ve had guys that couldn’t play,” Young added. “Guys that couldn’t lead or didn’t own the locker room. He’s accomplished a lot, and I don’t think we should diminish it. But we also have to recognize that whatever is missing, and however it didn’t get done, we all have to own that as well.”
Per Young, the Niners looked like a team that had already made up their mind about Garoppolo even though they were still winning and close to punching another Super Bowl ticket:
“It looks to me like, as an organization, they have decided that despite all of the success and the winning, we’re moving on. And so in the pantheon, it’s somewhere in there, but neither of them, Kyle nor Jimmy, it’s where they know they needed to be,” Young concluded.

Now, both parties are most likely heading towards a divorce, although moving Jimmy G’s deal will be complicated. But the questions at QB will still be there, as Trey Lance is still a work in progress and will need more time to develop into a starting-caliber signal-caller.

In a shocking turn of events, the Bears got the opportunity of selecting Fields withthe 11th-overall pick. Ahead of Sunday’s meeting, he has drawn praise from who could have been his coach his year, Kyle Shanahan.

“He’s getting thrown in there and playing and he’s having some up and down moments, which is expected. But you have to always be ready for him. If he breaks away, he’s got the size, and he’s got the speed to outrun almost anybody, he throws a great deep ball, has got a big arm, can make every throw and he’s getting better each week.”
The fact thatthe 49ers ended up <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/nfl-draft-2021-funniest-memes-and-reactions-20210430-0001.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">drafting</a> Lance doesn’t mean Fields hasn’t made an impression on them. The organization simply had other plans and this year’s draft class didn’t make it easy to choose between one QB and another.

Not because he wasn’t good or promising but because he looked like a long-term project.
The 49ers have been a legit Super Bowl contender for some years now and the only two things that have held them back have been injuries and quarterback play, so most people expected them to move the pick and/or Jimmy Garoppolo to get immediate help.
And, while some people have speculated that Garoppolo could lose his starting job to Lance at some point next season, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/top-15-nfl-coaches-with-most-wins-20200807-0003.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">coach</a> Kyle Shanahan was quick to shut that narrative down and support his starter – for now.

“What I told Jimmy right when we made the trade is, ‘I don’t know any rookie who can come and beat you out if you’re playing at his best self.’ I didn’t necessarily think he was there last year at training camp. Then he had the injuries and stuff. But right now I see him playing well out here. If he can continue to go that way, that’s great for Trey. That’s great for our team. Then Trey can wait till he’s at his best self, which doesn’t happen overnight,” Shanahan said in Football Morning in America.
“We’re on the practice field now and you’re a first-round pick so everyone’s looking at you. Your new team wants to see your talent level, which he has, but they also want to see how he carries himself. I think that’s what they’ve been impressed with. He doesn’t know everything yet. He’s still trying. This was his eighth practice since he’s been here, including OTAs,” Shanahan added.

<h2>Fred Warner Praises Lance</h2>
Even so, multiple reports claim that Lance has been more than impressive during training camp. In fact, superstar linebacker Fred Warner gave him his flowers after an impressive stretch in practice:
“You see the raw talent, and you see the ball fly out of his hand. Impressive,” Warner said. “Games will be different. But 11 on 11 out here is still football, and we’re seeing a young guy work and be humble and make throws like that. That’s what he needs to do.”
The 49ers have a nice problem right now. It’s always good to have a young, up-and-coming player to put pressure on an underperforming veteran. Who knows? Maybe Lance will be ready sooner than expected.
