Throughout the course of history, the Duke Blue Devils have been a never-ending source of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a>-caliber talent. They’ve had some of the most prominent players in league history.



As of now, three former first-overall picks (Kyrie Irving, Zion Williamson, and Anthony Davis) are still in the league, and we have other former Duke stars like Jayson Tatum, Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett, Jalen Johnson, and Dereck Lively II also going strong.



Even so, the Blue Devils might take things even further in the NBA next season. As reported by Derek Parker of Sports Illustrated, <a href="http://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg </a>will headline a class of three potential lottery picks from Jon Scheyer’s team.

“The combo forward will undoubtedly go No. 1, it’s only now a matter of where,” Parker wrote. “Additionally, Duke will see two other likely lottery picks in sharpshooter Kon Knueppel and 7-foot center Khaman Malauach. Both have a range as high as No. 4 per most experts, and are rarely, if ever, left out of the lottery entirely.”

If that wasn’t enough for the renowned program, fellow Blue Devils Tyrese Proctor and Isaiah Evans are also firmly expected to be taken at some point during the event.

All in all, it’s crazy to see that such a talented team fell short of the ultimate goal after being that close, but that’s just the beauty of college hoops, and it’s called March Madness for a reason.

It’s been a while since the Utah Jazz were a competitive team. It’s been even longer since they made it to the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> Finals, which hasn’t happened since Michael Jordan ended their hopes twice in consecutive seasons.



That’s why they’ve decided to go face-first towards the bottom of the standings. That would put them in a better position to land a potential generational prospect like<a href="http://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Cooper Flagg</a>.



They’re tied for the highest odds (14%) to land the first-overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Unfortunately, as team analyst Matt John pointed out, they have never found luck in the lottery.

“By getting the league’s worst record, the Jazz can’t fall lower than the No. 5 pick,” wrote John. “Even so, in all the times the Jazz have played the odds, they’ve never moved up higher than their pre-lottery position. Three times, they’ve moved backward. Last year, they had the eighth-best odds and wound up with the No. 10 pick, which turned out to be Cody Williams.”

Of course, it’s not like the Jazz have fully embraced the tank, either. If anything, they’ve tried to stay competitive despite not having as much talent as other Western Conference teams.



They absolutely tried to get the worst record this time around, and while history hasn’t been kind to them, the odds seem to be in their favor, and it’s hard to think of a better draft class to end this curse.

He entered the season as the most-anticipated and talked-about prospect in the nation, and, more often than not, he proved why everybody was so eager to get him.



However, as big a star as he was during his lone year in Durham, ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith still has some concerns about his clutch gene. Talking on ‘First Take,’ he pointed out that Flagg missed four game-winning shots in one season.

“The only blemish on his career is, there was four times that he had a chance to win a game and he failed,” Smith said. “All four times, you know, but that’s just the last play, the game-winning shot. Even so, Smith acknowledged that Flagg’s physical traits and elite skill set made him a no-brainer to be the first player taken off the board come the upcoming NBA Draft:



“But in the end, he’s 6’8-6’9, his ball-handling skills, his shot-making skills from shot-range, long-range, can play with his back to the basket, facing the basket,” added Smith. “Plus he’ll defend, plus he’ll block shots. This brother is the total package. And he is going to be the No. 1 overall pick in this upcoming <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> Draft. It is no secret what he was going to do because there’s no reason for him not to. He’s that dude.”

At the end of the day, there are some things you just can’t measure in a player. You either have it or you don’t. Then again, that should have no effect on his draft stock whatsoever.

That’s why NFL legend Shannon Sharpe mocked Duke fans for thinking he was actually going to return. Talking on ‘First Take,’ Sharpe pointed out that it was never a possibility.

Sharpe continued by stating that returning to college didn’t make any financial sense for him, as he would’ve still gotten more money from an NBA rookie contract:



“Considering where the money is now, it makes no sense because all you’re doing is prolonging being away from the bigger bag that you’re going to get,” he said. “They’re not going to give him the NIL or the collective that he would get going number one overall or as a top-three, top-five pick. So this made no sense.”

Flagg leaves campus with averages of 18.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. He was also a consensus first-team All-American and the National College Player of the Year, ACC Player of the Year, and many more.



He’s expected to be one of the faces of the NBA right out of the gate, and while those are some huge shoes to fill, he’s clearly talented enough to take care of business.

Maxwell has taken countless shots at them, calling them dumb and uneducated. However, he may have saved his wildest take about the team for the 2025 NBA Draft.



The two-time NBA champion believes the Jazz will be all over <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a>, not because he’s clearly the best player in his class, but only because of the color of his skin.

Of course, the Jazz have drafted several black players in the past, especially in recent years. Also, there are more than plenty of reasons to take Flagg with the first-overall pick.

Even if he does return, the Blue Devils will also welcome four new recruits next season. As such, he wants to make sure that they get started on the right foot as they enter this new chapter.



With that in mind, he went out of his way during a recent interview with FOX Sports to wish this new generation of Duke freshmen well and share some wisdom with them.

“I would say, just don’t be shy. Reach out to anybody on the current team and start building connections as early as you can. The earlier you can connect with the team and the coaches and really start making those relationships, it is really important in helping you buy in and understand the program,” said Flagg.

The Boozer twins, Carlos Boozer’s sons, will headline this recruit class for Jon Scheyer’s team. Being the son of a Duke great and former NBA player, they may have heard plenty of advice about life in college.

His lone season at Durham only cemented his case as the best player in his class. Needless to say, he’s now firmly expected to turn pro, although he has yet to announce his decision.



In a recent interview with FOX Sports, the Maine native claimed that he would have the final say on that decision. Nevertheless, he will still consult with his parents, his agent, and his coaches.

“I think it comes from myself. Where I see myself, what I want, where my head is at. Both of my parents, my family, my agent, and obviously, my coaches and the staff. Those are the people I will talk to the most,” he said.

At the end of the day, he’s his own man, and he has to make his own decisions. Even so, it’s very difficult to envision him returning to college after everything that has transpired.

He could have an unmatched impact if he decided to do that, and he would also send NBA teams picking high in the draft into a frenzy. As much as we would love to see that happen, it seems unlikely.

Throughout the course of history, the Duke Blue Devils have had some of the greatest players in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> history. That’s one of the reasons why other fans hate them so much.



They’ve had their fair share of superstars, with <a href="http://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a> being the latest addition to that list. Unfortunately, that didn’t translate to a national championship this season.



So, now that his days in Durham are most likely coming to an end and his Duke career is all but over, he looked back in time and shared his Mr. Rushmore of former Blue Devils.

“Picking four is tough. I think JJ Redick for sure. Christian Laettner for sure. I’d put Grant Hill up there. The fourth one can go any way. I’ll put Zion (Williamson) on there because, for me, his team was one of the teams I really watched growing up and was excited about watching,” he told FOX Sports.

The young forward should still rank high among the most talented players in Duke history, and he had a freshman year for the ages, leading the team in all major categories.

A couple of months ago, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg">Cooper Flagg</a> made the rounds online for admitting that he wished he could return to play for Duke next season. Well, technically, he could. 



He has yet to declare for the 2025 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> Draft, and while he’s firmly expected to be the first overall pick, it’s not going to be official until he finally submits his application.



In a recent interview with FOX Sports, the talented forward admitted that he hadn’t made up his mind just yet, adding that he would take his time before making a decision.

“I’m just going through the process. Really, we haven’t had that much time to talk about it yet. I got the chance to come out here (Los Angeles) and take some time with myself and my family and take some time to reflect on the season I’ve had. I’m not in a particular rush. I’m just going through the process, going to talk with everybody I need to, and will make a decision on what’s best for me,” he said.

Needless to say, the chances of Flagg actually returning to college next season seem to be quite slim. But until he declares for the NBA Draft and actually goes through with the process, anything is possible.

The Duke Blue Devils’ season ended in heartbreak. They had a chance to take down the Houston Cougars in the Final Four to advance to the championship game, but <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a> missed a key shot down the stretch.



Even so, there’s nothing to hold against the projected first overall pick in the 2025 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA </a>Draft. He was the best player in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>this season, and bigger things await now.



The Flagg frenzy has been so out of control lately that even his mother, Kelly Flagg, has profited from it. She just took to Instagram to announce her partnership with Dr. Scholl’s.

Of course, besides being a mother, Kelly Flagg was an athlete herself. She played at the University of Maine, and she was even a part of the team that won its first ever NCAA Tournament game back in 1999.

With all the money that’s coming her son’s way, it’s safe to say that she won’t have to work another day in her life. Even so, it never hurts to have some more cash to spare.

With the Duke Blue Devils eliminated from championship contention, it seems like we’ve already seen the last of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a> in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball.</a> He claimed that he would love to return, but that’s not likely to happen.



Flagg is touted as the next big thing in basketball. He’s projected to be the first overall pick in the 2025 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> Draft, and he’s not going to forgo that opportunity to stay in college another season.



However, Bobby Burack of Outkick is worried about his future in the league. In his latest column, he argued that he could face the same racial backlash Caitlin Clark faced in the WNBA.

“Like Clark, Flagg projects to be a transcendent star at the next level. Comparisons to Jokic, Doncic, or Nowitzki fall apart when you consider the latter three were not born in America. Jokic has been the best player in the NBA for at least five seasons and isn’t even among the five biggest attractions in the league,” wrote Burack.

This makes sense to a degree, but it’s not like Flagg would be the first white superstar in the league. He wouldn’t even be the first white and American perennial All-Star.

At the end of the day, game recognizes game. Flagg’s talent is only topped by his work ethic, and his colleagues can respect that. Hopefully, that will also be the case with Clark in her second season in the league.

When asked about him, fellow Duke star J.J. Redick, who’s currently coaching the Los Angeles Lakers, went out of his way to compare him to another former All-Star: Luol Deng.

I played with a guy my sophomore year, Luol Deng, who was our best player on a Final Four team and I think Cooper’s season has surpassed Luol’s and Luol made two All-Star games and had a terrific NBA career. I think the biggest thing that stands out is, he’s talented, but he plays so hard. He’s a rare breed. I’d put all my chips on him.”

Of course, Deng was never a superstar, but he was always a very serviceable player. So, if that’s Flagg’s ceiling, as underwhelming as it might sound, it’s still pretty decent.

One of the most anticipated prospects in recent memory has wrapped up his brief but electric college career. Cooper Flagg’s freshman campaign at Duke came to a stunning end with the Blue Devils falling 70–67 to Houston in the Final Four. A NBA general manager spoke about Flagg performance and makes a comparison with <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/scottie-pippen">Scottie Pippen</a>.



Now, all eyes turn to Flagg’s professional future. The 18-year-old phenom is widely projected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and is already seen by many as a future franchise cornerstone. However, not everyone in the league is sold on his ceiling as a No. 1 option.



In a recent interview with The Athletic, an anonymous Eastern Conference general manager offered a tempered take—comparing Flagg to Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, but with a caveat. 



“I say Scottie because he could have been a No. 1 guy—and was after MJ left [Chicago]—but he became by far the best No. 2,” the executive said. “I think Cooper will be a hell of a No. 2, but he might need a top-10 [player] running mate with him. He can obviously prove me wrong, but I don’t see him as a No. 1 guy on a championship team in his career.”

While the comparison is flattering on paper, it also sets a remarkably high bar. Pippen is often regarded as the greatest second option in NBA history. His accolades include six championships, 10 All-Defensive Team selections, seven All-NBA nods, seven All-Star appearances, and a spot on the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a>’s 75th Anniversary Team.

Over 17 NBA seasons, Pippen averaged 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.0 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game. Renowned for his defensive prowess, he was also an elite playmaker and a reliable scorer, especially in transition and on the wing.



<h2>Flagg’s dominant NCAA run</h2>



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg">Flagg</a> made a strong case for himself during Duke’s NCAA Tournament run, averaging 21.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 0.6 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 44.2% from the field and a blistering 50% from three-point range.



Over the full season, the freshman sensation posted 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game, leading Duke to a 35–4 record. His versatility and poise at both ends of the floor made him arguably the most impactful player in the country.



Flagg capped off the year by winning the Associated Press Player of the Year award, becoming the youngest player ever to receive the honor. He’s just the fourth freshman to earn the title, joining an exclusive club that includes Kevin Durant (2007), Anthony Davis (2012), and Zion Williamson (2019).

Flagg once again delivered a stellar performance for his team. Consistently leading in the stats, the star of Jon Scheyer’s squad could have sealed the Duke Blue Devils’ spot in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">NCAA</a> Tournament final, but the final play didn’t go as expected, and it was the Cougars who will face the Gators to decide the new champion.



Once the game ended, the Newport native spoke in the press conference about the key play that could have changed the final outcome for the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/duke">Blue Devils</a> in this thrilling March Madness.



“It’s the play Coach drew up,” Flagg said after the game. “Took it into the paint. Thought I got my feet set, rose up. Left it short, obviously. A shot I’m willing to live with in the scenario.”
