According to reports from <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college football</a> insider Pete Nakos and On3, current Washington Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch is one name to keep an eye on as the Bruins look to fill the vacant spot left by Foster’s firing.

Iamaleava has been in Westwood for roughly six months. Still, he’s been put through the wringer in record time. With his departure came transfers, along with decommitments from recruits in the classes of 2026 and 2027.

Iamaleava made sure everybody was on the same page as he delivered a bold statement across the locker room. Needless to say, it did the trick as the Bruins put on a show against the No. 7 Nittany Lions.

“There was a lot of outside noise coming into this game,” Iamaleava said during his post-game press conference. “I was preaching to the guys, ‘If y’all don’t want to be here, man, leave.’ I was basically telling them that whoever still believes we’re in this, and that we’ve got games ahead we can win—let’s roll.”

Much has been said about Iamaleava. Many of those can both be true. Fans across the nation still disapprove of his decision to enter the transfer portal over NIL disputes with the Volunteers. However, his time in UCLA hasn’t been entirely as bad as the Bruins’ record indicates.



Iamaleava has struggled, that’s undeniable, but he’s also been left out to dry in several occasions. More times than one, Iamaleava has been asked to play hero ball for the Bruins. As it stands, the sophomore quarterback is the entire offense in the City of Angels.

So far, Iamaleava 954 passing yards, 6 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Moreover, he’s rushed for 332 yards and 4 touchdowns. No other player on the roster has scored through the ground. The numbers may be good for the Long Beach-native, but they are a recipe for disaster for UCLA. 



<h2>Ranked no more</h2>



Yet another loss against a Big Ten opponent in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NCAA</a> was the tipping point for Penn State in the AP Poll Top 25. Concerns are only growing louder around Drew Allar, James Franklin, and the Nittany Lions’ ability to prevail when the spotlight is brightest.

Still, the Bruins believed it was best to nip the problem in the bud before the season spiraled out of control. It might be too late for that as UCLA is 0-3 before facing a single Big Ten opponent. The college football program in Westwood faces trouble in a new front.



In the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a>, recruiting is almost as important to build winning programs as actually winning games on Saturdays. The Bruins know this, yet it seems they might’ve underestimated the waves their decision would make all across the country. In very short notice, 4-star defensive lineman David Schwerzel, 3-star linebacker Ramzak Fruean, and 3-star interior offensive lineman Cooper Javorsky backpedaled on their commitments to the Bruins.

All three of them are members of the 2026 recruiting class. Their decisions cast doubt on UCLA’s status going into next season. As much as it hurts to admit in Westwood, the current campaign might very well be over.

“I am officially decomitted from UCLA, my recruitment is 100% back open,” Fruean said. Schwerzel voiced a similar comment: “Recruitment 100% back open! Continue to guide me through this process lord.”



Even teenagers in high school are aware of the drama going on in Los Angeles. It won’t be long before actual players on campus decide it might be best to enter the transfer portal and search for a new start in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football">college football</a>.

To say the 2025 NCAA season so far for UCLA has been disappointing and disheartening would be an understatement. With Iamaleava transferring from Tennessee, Bruins fans expected much better results from the 21-year-old signal caller and his teammates. 



Though not many fans made their way to the Rose Bowl for the recent matchup with the New Mexico Lobos, those who did walked away in utter disgust and completely let down. Still, the show must go down, even if it’s an embarrassing one to watch.

While Iamaleava is now eligible to enter the transfer portal and search for a new home in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football">college football</a>, it might not be the best decision. As the 21-year-old has already transferred in the NCAA, he won’t be able to play this season. However, as he’s played in less than four games, Iamaleava can redshirt and retain a year of college eligibility.

“Fortunately, we recruited other guys on his high school team and multiple guys throughout the years… My six years here, I’ve become good friends with Josh Giles (Dent’s high school coach) and Shannin Sharpe (former point guard at Dent’s school – now Colorado assistant coach). People that are close with Donnie, as well as his teammates here, Eric Freeny… we have many guys that have played throughout the years from Centennial High School. Once Donnie hit the portal, if we could afford him, we were probably going to get him. We already had the relationships, we’re the home school… I think probably the biggest thing he wanted to know was who else we were going to add with him. It wasn’t just about the money. He wanted to win,” he explained.

Since arriving in Los Angeles, Iamaleava hasn’t been at his best. Mick Cronin is convinced he has found a hidden gem that would put his Big Ten rivals in complex positions. The UCLA coach will embark in his sixth season with the Bruins after a second-round loss in the 2025 NCAA tournament.&nbsp;



Coming off a 23-11 (13-7 in conference) record, the Bruins are eager to make a deeper run in the national tournament and challenge other top programs such as Duke, UConn, and the defending champions, Florida.&nbsp;



Cronin’s Bruins welcomed guard Donovan Dent from New Mexico in the offseason, which has the 54-year-old over the moon ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

During an appearance on CBS’ Inside <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">College Basketball</a> Now with Jon Rothstein, Mick Cronin talked about what he expects to see from Dent, a player he believes can elevate his offense.&nbsp;

“Donovan Dent is without question the most dynamic I’ve coached,” Cronin said. “Tiger [Campbell] was the ultimate winner, and I’ve had some really good point guards over the years, but Donnie can take it to another level. In practice, there are times he plays at a speed no one else can match. He’s also an underrated shooter.”



He praised the coaches who worked with Dent before, lauding his growth prior to joining the Bruins.



“He’s a problem for opponents,” Cronin warned. “When you play UCLA, the first challenge is figuring out how to stop Donovan from breaking your defense down every possession. Having a guard like him is like having a great quarterback in football, he can create plays on his own, and you don’t have to draw up every basket.”&nbsp;



Cronin took the Bruins to the NCAA tournament’s Final Four in 2021 for the first and only time. Perhaps Dent is the key to emulating that performance and getting over the hump.

Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nico-iamaleava">Nico Iamaleava</a> and his transfer to the UCLA Bruins continues its domino effect over the roster in Los Angeles as another quarterback in the program has now announced his transfer to another school in the state of California.



The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa" rel="sponsored nofollow">NCAA</a> transfer portal continues to deliver great twists and turns to an otherwise quiet stretch of the year during college football’s offseason. This time around, the UCLA Bruins are in centerstage, once again, as a quarterback in DeShaun Foster’s team has now changed address, staying in the Golden State, nevertheless.



Iamaleava has yet to touch down in Los Angeles, as the transfer process requires him to complete his academic obligations at his previous institution, and he is expected at <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ucla">UCLA</a> during the summer. 



Despite being 2,199 miles away in Knoxville, Iamaleava continues to impact the daily life on campus at UCLA. Quarterbacks in the program have now departed, making way for Nico and his brother Madden Iamaleava. On that note, freshman Robert McDaniel is transferring to San Jose State ahead of his first year in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-football">college football</a>, as reported by On3.

<h2>Short-lived stay in LA</h2>



McDaniel committed to UCLA as a three-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class, but has now signed with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/san-jose-state">San Jose State Spartans</a>, as the QB room LA is preparing to welcome in Nicholas and Madden Iamaleava ahead of the 2025 NCAA season.

McDaniel, who was born and raised in California, joins Joey Aguilar in the list of UCLA quarterbacks that have made use of the transfer portal after Iamaleava’s transfer as their playing time would have dimished greatly—if not entirely— with the former Vols’ star’s arrival.

Aguilar completed what was virtually a trade in college football. The former Bruins’ signal-caller signed with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tennessee-volunteers">Volunteers</a>, replacing Iamaleava under center for Josh Heupel’s Tennessee during the 2025 campaign.
