We’re just one game away from completing the NBA Playoff picture. On Wednesday night, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Sacramento Kings, while the Miami Heat outlasted the Chicago Bulls in the Play-In Tournament. After the game, Mavericks guard Klay Thompson shared his thoughts on the hard-fought victory.
It wasn’t an easy night for Dallas, especially without one of their key players in the lineup. But Thompson stepped up when the team needed him most, delivering a strong performance to keep the Mavericks’ postseason hopes alive.
With a must-win matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies coming on Friday, Thompson reflected on the emotional win over Sacramento and how the team overcame the odds. “It felt really good because tonight I thought I missed it, but it kind of lifted off the rim, so that part for me was so nice,” Thompson said.
He added: “There’s a lot of emotion right there. I thought I did a good job tonight not forcing it. Human nature says when you end the season on a sour note, you want to come out and prove people wrong. But I probably did a good job to start the game, dishing, rebounding, playing defense.”
Thompson reflects on Mavericks’ momentum heading into the postseason
Following the Mavericks‘ solid win in their opening Play-In Tournament game, Thompson shared his thoughts on the team’s current form and playoff hopes. Despite a rocky season marked by Luka Doncic’s trade and key injuries, Dallas is still in the hunt.
“It’s going great right now (laughs). We’re still alive, and I’m excited to head to Memphis. Tonight was fun because we were fully immersed in the moment. It’s been a tumultuous season—injuries hit us hard, harder than I’ve seen before. But we’re still here, playing postseason basketball,” Thompson said.
Thompson’s optimism is a welcome sign for Mavericks fans, who hope the team can make a deep playoff run despite the challenges they’ve faced without their former star, Doncic.
Thompson responds to Jason Kidd’s praise after Kings game
Head coach Jason Kidd praised Thompson’s performance after Wednesday night’s win over the Kings, giving him a score of “eight.” Thompson addressed the compliment postgame with appreciation.
“I appreciated Coach Kidd—he’s been grinding all season. He’s played me 27, 28 minutes a night, and it’s truly a pleasure to play under him. He’s an incredible basketball mind,“ Thompson said.
