Brock Purdy has seen several of his 2024 teammates depart as the San Francisco 49ers undergo a roster overhaul. Among them is a key guard who helped protect him last season and has now secured a major contract with the Green Bay Packers.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Packers have given Aaron Banks a golden opportunity, signing him to a four-year, $77 million contract. The deal ensures stability for Banks, whose career was slightly impacted last season due to injury.
Banks had been a reliable presence alongside Purdy for years. He first suited up for the 49ers in 2021 and played a crucial role on the offensive line, with his standout season coming in 2022, when he logged 971 snaps as a starter in 16 games.
Banks will have an enormous average salary of $19.25 million with the Packers, much more than the $1,768,400 he was earning with the San Francisco 49ers on his 4-year contract, which totaled $8,565,019 in earnings with that franchise.
The Packers’ Offensive Line Could Improve with Banks
2024 was a relatively good year for the Packers, who had the 8th best offensive line in the NFL, averaging 27.1 points per game, which helped them reach the playoffs. Sean Rhyan will be the other guard playing on the offensive line alongside Banks. Rhyan has been with the team since 2022, and he is likely to be moved to another position on the field to make adjustments to the line.
Social Media Reaction
The reactions from fans were not pleasant, especially among Packers fans on X, after learning about the nearly $20 million Banks will earn annually with the franchise. Some reactions harshly criticized the player, and the majority do not agree with his arrival in Green Bay.
