NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers could reportedly trade for Tua Tagovailoa's teammate after losing player to season-ending injury

Facing a major setback ahead of the 2025 season, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are reportedly eyeing a bold move. After losing a key player to a season-ending injury, the team is considering a trade to bring in one of Tua Tagovailoa's talented teammates.

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have lost an offensive piece ahead of the start of the 2025 season. According to a report from Adam Schefter, Donald Parham Jr. suffered an Achilles injury.

“Sources: Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Donald Parham Jr. suffered a torn Achilles during today’s OTAs that now is likely to end his 2025 season. A brutal injury.”

Even though the Steelers have Pat Freiermuth as their star player at the position, Parham’s injury has sparked rumors about a possible trade to bring in another tight end who could potentially help Aaron Rodgers.

Who will Steelers acquire in a trade?

Jonnu Smith of the Miami Dolphins is a serious candidate to join the Steelers via trade. The teammate of Tua Tagovailoa had a strong 2024 season and, as he seeks a better contract, could leave his current team, according to Schefter.

“Back in it: the Steelers renewed conversations today with Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith, who is seeking a new contract. The trade between the Steelers and Dolphins is still alive, per source.”
