The CONCACAF Champions League is an annual club competition for the top teams in North America, Central America and the Caribbean. The winner qualifies for the Club World Cup quarterfinals, a reward that makes it one of the biggest tournaments in the continent. A new era of the competition started in 2008, with a different format and more teams involved. Since then, many players have put their names in the score sheet. Do you know who the highest goal scorer is?

 

Two players share the fifth place with 16 goals: Humberto Suazo and Aldo De Nigris, both with Monterrey. The Chilean striker even won the Golden Boot award for his seven goals in the 2011/2012 edition. Emanuel Villa is one step ahead, thanks to his 17 goals netted by playing for Cruz Azul and Querétaro. He also finished as the top scorer in the 2015/2016 season, with six goals.

In the podium we have Mexico’s favorite Oribe Peralta taking third place. The experienced striker participated in the CONCACAF Champions League seven times, scoring a total of 22 goals playing with Santos Laguna and Club América. He won the Golden Boot twice: in the 2011/2012 season with Santos (7 goals) and in the 2014/2015 with América (7 goals).

Darwin Quintero is second with 23 goals. The Colombian forward had his best seasons with Santos Laguna, but he also managed to score goals with América. In the 2012/2013 season, he won the Golden Boot award after scoring six times during the tournament.

The number 1 of the list is Javier Orozco. The striker, who plays for Tampico Madero of Mexico’s second division at the moment, netted 24 goals in 31 CONCACAF Champions League games. He scored almost all of them when he was a Cruz Azul player. He even won the Golden Boot award twice, in the 2008/2009 (7 goals) and 2010/2011 (11 goals) seasons. In the 2015/2016 tournament, and with Santos Laguna, Orozco scored his 24th goal in the competition to become the all-time top scorer.
