Qatar and Panama drew 3-3 in a dramatic match at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Texas for Matchday 1 of the Gold Cup 2021. The Asian nation debuted in the tournament for the first time ever with a high paced match. Both teams scored five goals within only 15 minutes of frenzy in the second half.
The start of the match was delayed due to a storm in Texas. However, the wait was worth it, as the two teams gave it all on the pitch. Qatar was the first one to score thanks to a strike from Akram Afif, but quickly Panama responded with a head from Rolando Blackburm. Two minutes later, Almoez Ali made the second for Qatar but Blackburn showed again to put the 2-2 on the score.
