Arch Manning has yet to make his first start as the true QB1 of the Texas Longhorns, yet much buzz is already building around his future. As a decision on the NFL looms closer, the young signal-caller has now defied his grandfather Archie Manning’s recent statement.
Manning’s college football career is unlike any other. The heir of football’s royal quarterback family has been under the spotlight since coming out of Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans. The five-star recruit has had the eyes of Texas and the entire States fixed on him ever since.
Starting his freshman year and being the backup to Quinn Ewers in 2024, the sophomore quarterback is ready to take over the college football landscape. However, many are already fantasizing about him in the NFL. He’s yet to throw 100 pass attempts, yet fans have seen enough and want him to make the leap to the league. That would definitely be a choice for the 21-year-old, who has yet to experience many of the highs and lows of NCAA football.
Family has a big say in Arch Manning’s decision. As it should be—it’s not often that three of the best quarterbacks in NFL history share a family tree. On that note, grandfather Archie issued a firm statement suggesting Arch wouldn’t declare for the 2026 Draft. While a reasonable thing to say, Arch has now added suspense to his decision, backpedaling on Archie’s comment.

“I don’t know where [Archie] got that from. He texted me and apologized about that. I’m really just taking it day by day right now,” Arch Manning admitted, as reported by Inside Texas.

The Manning-mania runs deep in college football. The frenzy isn’t exclusive to fans in Austin, but to the entire nation. All across the country there’s much hype surrounding the son of Cooper Manning. Called to be the next great thing in the NCAA, many believe Manning is bound to take home the Heisman Trophy this year. Even Arch had to step in and pour cold water on such claims.
“I’m definitely honored that people think that [I’m a Heisman favorite]. But I haven’t done anything yet,” Manning said humbly as usual. “It’s about winning games at this point.”
