J.C. Escarra had a solid performance as the New York Yankees‘ starter, proving against the Diamondbacks that he’s more than ready to take on one of the most demanding roles on a team—the catcher position. Additionally, Escarra recorded his first career hit and dedicated it to a close family member.

Following the Yankees’ victory over the Diamondbacks, Escarra shared that the recipient of the baseball would be his father, saying, “Long-time Yankee fan, lived in Yonkers 15 years, been through a lot. He deserves that ball and he’s gonna be happy.Reflecting on his first hit, he admitted, “I don’t know if everyone saw it, I got a little bit too excited at second base.”

While Escarra excelled behind home plate, his offensive production was modest, with a .167 batting average and .167 OBP. Nonetheless, his first hit of the season came in the bottom of the 7th inning, though it didn’t result in a run.
