The New York Yankees know they will have to navigate the 2025 season without Gerrit Cole. Following surgery, the ace will be sidelined for several months, forcing the team to open the season with a different pitcher than they’re accustomed to for Opening Day.
While no official announcement has been made, a report from Bryan Hoch points to Carlos Rodón as the likely starter for the Yankees’ March 27 matchup against the Brewers, which will be their season opener. That series will take place at Yankee Stadium.
Last season, Rodón started 32 games, the highest total of his career and his most with the Yankees. He finished the year with a 16-9 record and a 3.96 ERA, both personal bests with the team, improving significantly from the 6.85 ERA he posted in 2023.
Without Gerrit Cole, Rodón will have to take on a much larger role alongside his teammates on the mound. The rotation is expected to remain strong, but Cole’s absence will inevitably put added pressure on the rest of the Yankees’ pitching staff.

Yankees vs. Brewers Head-to-Head
The Yankees’ most recent game against the Brewers was on April 28 at American Family Field, where New York won 15-5. A day earlier, they had also scored 15 runs in a 15-3 victory. Milwaukee took the first game of that series with a tight 7-6 win.
