The Golden State Warriors have snapped out of their recent slump, securing back-to-back wins to climb into the top six of the Western Conference. Despite the momentum, defensive inconsistency remains a major concern for fans. In light of these struggles, Draymond Green offered a surprising perspective on what might be causing the team’s defensive issues.

“If you go watch that [Milwaukee Bucks] third quarter, I kept looking at the bench. [I was] going crazy because they kept getting 3s and there’s guys overhelping…And I’m looking at the bench like, ‘Yo y’all keep over helping, but [Antetokounmpo] hasn’t scored on me.‘,” stated Draymond Green on his podcast.

Although many blamed the lack of defensive support on Draymond, his comments highlight a much different truth since he considered overhelping from his teammates as a bigger problem for the team. Despite many consider his argument as unrealistic, he has already shown his elite defensiveness. Even, he is one of the top candidates to earn the NBA defensive player of the year.

Green’s comments are not meant to expose his teammates. He has always been vocal about the team’s performance, aiming to motivate rather than criticize. His words may have resonated, as the Warriors’ defense has looked much sharper over the past two games, showcasing their ability to respond to adversity. That said, their playoff spot is far from guaranteed. With eight games remaining, Steve Kerr must keep the roster healthy and focused to secure a postseason berth.

He’s locked in. He never wants you to ‘help.’ Sometimes he does get beat, and he’ll still get mad at you if you help; he’s just locked in like that… He’s always like that, it’s not just Giannis. He don’t give a damn who he’s going up against. If he were going up against a 5-year-old, he would hate for that individual to score on him. And he wouldn’t want anyone else to help him. He’s like, ‘This is my matchup, this is on me, I have to be able to get a stop,” confessed Butler.
