Not many foreign players have had a career as successful as Raul Allegre. The Mexican former kicker for the New York Giants won two Super Bowls with the NFC East team and has now shared exclusively with Bolavip US the reason behind the club’s struggles in recent years.

Born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, in 1959, Raul Allegre, like many Mexican kids, was a big fan of soccer. He played as a striker, with tremendous power in his leg—a skill that would eventually benefit him, though in a completely different sport.

Allegre moved to the United States in 1977 to improve his English in Shelton, Washington. However, he never imagined that his soccer abilities would lead him to become one of the most memorable foreign players in NFL history.

“I never envisioned a career in professional football,” Allegre said. “I went undrafted in 1983, but the Cowboys offered me a chance to practice with them. That’s how it all began—I never chased that dream, but God had a plan for me.

Following a brief time with the Cowboys and the then-Baltimore Colts, the New York Giants signed Allegre in 1986. He played a key role in the team’s Super Bowl XXI victory, contributing one field goal and four extra points in the game. He would go on to win two Super Bowls with the NFC East club.

“The culture of family has been lost,”Raul Allegre told Bolavip US. “Wellington Mara once said, ‘Once a Giant, always a Giant,’ and that feeling has been lost under the new ownership. John Mara is a great person, brilliant, but the culture has changed. Combined with the situation of the mistakes of the front office, it is an organization that is adrift.

According to Allegre, the Giants are currently far from achieving success. He believes there is a clear formula for winning—one that at least one team in the league is currently executing to perfection: the Kansas City Chiefs.

“It is the personality of the club, and it all comes from the top. Successful teams have four components that never miss: an owner who facilitates things and makes the right decisions, a general manager who knows how to build a team, and a strong quarterback-head coach duo. I just described the Kansas City Chiefs. One component can be missing, but at least three of them are needed for success.”

The Giants have made several missteps in recent years, from Daniel Jones’ extension and eventual departure to Saquon Barkley signing with the Eagles, among many others. However, the former kicker remains optimistic that, after years of poor decisions, the front office can finally make the right moves to restore the club to its former glory.
