The Atlanta Falcons were looking to strengthen their secondary defense as the team wants to go for an NFL playoff push. As Michael Penix Jr. guides the offense, the defense is also now getting new talent.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that cornerback C.J. Henderson is set to sign with the Falcons. Henderson was a first-round pick in 2020. He played for the Carolina Panthers, which is now an NFC South foe for the player.
Henderson started his career on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Last season, he spent time with both the Texans and Steelers but couldn’t suit up for any games. According to the report, many teams were looking to get Henderson’s services.
Henderson’s best version could be very useful for Atlanta
This would be Henderson’s fifth season in the NFL. He will be 27 years old as the season progresses, he is still at a prime age. Henderson has three interceptions, 16 passes defended, one sack, 172 combined tackles and one forced fumble in his career.

While Henderson’s career hasn’t panned out as many expected, his spot on the Falcons would be a depth role. He wouldn’t be starting much of the time. His relevance would be providing depth on the secondary. Much has been said of Michael Penix Jr. and the offense of this team, but now the defense is looking serious.

The Falcons secondary is already talented
When looking at the team’s secondary, the talent is clearly there. A.J. Terrell is an elite cornerback and Mike Hughes is also a very decent back. Dee Alford lines up at nickelback to make it a complete unit.
Jessie Bates III is one of the best safeties in the league, but the Falcons also have Jordan Fuller, third-round pick Xavier Watts and DeMarcco Hellams. Henderson is just one last piece to an already good unit.
