The Jacksonville Jaguars aim to become serious contenders in the upcoming NFL season, and to achieve that, they made an important decision regarding the future. Trevor Lawrence, the undisputed star of the team, will continue sharing the roster with one of the most important players on defense.
Travon Walker, one of the most talented defensive ends in the league, will remain with Liam Coen’s team as the Jaguars have exercised the fifth-year option on the former Georgia Bulldogs player.
The news was revealed by NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who, through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, reported the significant move made by Jacksonville.
“The #Jaguars announced they have exercised the fifth-year option on DE Travon Walker, the former No. 1 overall pick,” the insider reported via @RapSheet. In this way, Walker will be under contract through the 2026 season.

Walker joined the Jaguars in the 2022 draft, being selected with the number 1 overall pick in the first round. The former Bulldogs player has been a key piece in his team’s defense since his arrival in the NFL.

The Jaguars’ negotiations to retain Walker
Maintaining a solid foundation is often the key to achieving great goals in the NFL. And this was one of the main objectives for Liam Coen since his arrival at the franchise. He hinted at this when asked by the press about Travon Walker’s situation.
“Yeah, we’re having open conversations, and at the end of the day, we’ll continue to have those. James and Tony and I will have those conversations as we go, for sure,” the HC said about Walker and a potential extension last week at the annual league meetings in South Florida.
Finally, to the benefit of the new coaching staff, the DE will wear the Jaguars‘ colors for at least two more years, thus strengthening one of the most crucial departments for any team.
