Aaron Rodgers could be approaching a possible deadline to confirm whether or not he will play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to a report by Mike Florio, the quarterback must make a decision soon about his future in the NFL.
āCommon sense suggests that an answer is coming, sooner than later. Aaron Rodgers will, or wonāt, sign a contract with the Steelers. Or, at a minimum, heāll announce his intention to do so. Pittsburghās OTAs begin on May 27. Thatās only 16 days away. If heās serious about being as ready as he can be for the looming football season, it makes sense to show up and get to know his teammates, coaches, etc.ā
So far, the former Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers has not given the Steelers any updates since that April 17 interview with Pat McAfee, in which he said he couldnāt commit to any team due to issues within his inner circle.
When will Aaron Rodgers sign with Steelers?
Aaron Rodgers could sign with the Steelers before OTAs and after the NFL releases the 2025 season schedule. Florio mentions that this could be one of the reasons why the quarterback doesnāt want to give any hints about his future: avoiding primetime games and tightly packed weeks.
āAnd if the goal at this point is to delay the process long enough to keep the Steelers from being loaded up with extra early-season short-week and/or prime-time games (obviously, they can be flexed into more standalone games later in the year), the schedule hay presumably is in the barn. If he announces, say, today that heāll be a Steeler, it will be difficult for the NFLās scheduling gurus to retreat to the bat cave and spit out a brand new configuration of 272 regular-season games.ā

In a theory that seems hard to believe, Florio said that some sources may have leaked to him the possibility that Rodgers will announce his final decision about his future next Wednesday in order to overshadow the league and its long-awaited schedule release.
āThereās one other possibility that would be hilarious if it happens. Weāve caught wind of the chance (and we have no idea how realistic it is) that Rodgers could announce or leak his plans at 7:45 p.m. ET or so on Wednesday, upstaging the schedule release planned for 15 minutes later.ā
