NFL News: Andy Reid’s Chiefs send a worrying message about Travis Kelce after tight end pushed back retirement

Travis Kelce's delayed retirement raises eyebrows as Andy Reid and the Chiefs send an unsettling message about the future. With his final season on the horizon, Kelce's commitment to chasing another Super Bowl might be the key to the Chiefs' dynasty, if he can stay at the top of his game.

Andy Reid and the Chiefs are one of the favorite teams to dominate the AFC. Undoubtedly, a key factor will be the productivity in the connection between Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. However, in a somewhat strange message during an interview with the Kansas City Star, general manager Brett Veach spoke about a possible decline in the tight end’s numbers.

ā€œThe numbers won’t be the same. I mean, you have to acknowledge a certain aspect of that, right? I don’t know if I look at it in terms of, like, expectations for yardage or touchdowns or catches. I think that when he’s on the field now, he makes us better. And I think that he’s also a guy that makes the people around him better. And when you have a guy that’s that connected with a quarterback, it’s almost like a little bit of him and Pat are a conductor for everybody else.ā€

Last season, the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles, and that game raised many doubts about the future of the dynasty. However, Veach has made sure to maintain a championship-caliber roster.

Will Travis Kelce retire from football?

No. Travis Kelce will not retire from football, as the tight end promised to fulfill the final year of his contract while aiming for another Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last season, Kelce recorded 823 yards and 3 touchdowns. However, as has been the case for much of his career, his biggest impact came in the playoffs, where he was a key piece in eliminating the Texans and the Bills.
