NFL News: Ben Roethlisberger sends clear message to Mike Tomlin and Steelers about Aaron Rodgers as starting quarterback

Ben Roethlisberger isn't mincing words when it comes to the Steelers’ quarterback situation. With Aaron Rodgers still undecided, Big Ben has a strong message for Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh’s front office.

Ben Roethlisberger isn’t holding back. If Aaron Rodgers doesn’t feel convinced about playing for Mike Tomlin, the Pittsburgh Steelers legend admitted on his Footbahlin podcast that Mason Rudolph is capable of leading the team next season.

“Mason can throw the ball and he can make decisions and go. Mason can get the guys the ball. He can throw. Mason can throw the ball. Like, that’s never been a question. He can get guys. He can make decisions and get the ball out of his hand. He’s not afraid to take shots down the field either. You know, that’s one of the things I think that as you’ve watched Mason when he was here and then in Tennessee, like he’s not one of these guys that gets nervous and just wants to get the ball out his hands right away.”

Rodgers seems to be waiting on the Vikings, considering they are a Super Bowl contender and might have a better roster than the Steelers. However, Minnesota has publicly stated that their starting quarterback is J.J. McCarthy.

Who will be the starting quarterback for the Steelers?

Mason Rudolph would be the starting quarterback for the Steelers if Aaron Rodgers rejects Pittsburgh’s offer. According to Roethlisberger, Mike Tomlin shouldn’t doubt that this is a good alternative, considering there are no big names left in free agency.

“He’ll sit in there and he’ll throw it down the field. I think that’s what you got to do when you have George Pickens and DK Metcalf. Those are deep down the field type guys. So, if you don’t end up getting Aaron, which is what I think you’d want if you want to make your offense a wider net offense and create more things. If you don’t end up getting him, I think you can stick with Mason and be happy with what you’re gonna get.”
