After a long break, the New York Jets returned to action in the training camp few weeks ago. Now, they are gearing up to face the Green Bay Packers in their preseason opener. With this in mind, head coach Aaron Glenn is determined to make a statement by securing a victory. Considering the latter, quarterback Justin Fields has sent a clear message to the head coach ahead of the NFL preseason matchup.
“I think we need to at least see the field each and every game. I think that will be good for our team, it will be good for Tanner in the in-game stuff, it will be good for me, the guys on offense. I don’t think, I know some guys, they sit out the whole preseason, but I don’t think that’s the case for us. Just because of the new team, new offense, and stuff like that. So, that’s kind of how I feel about the situation,” Fields said, via a transcript from the Jets.
Despite being one of the NFL‘s premier quarterbacks, Justin Fields faced a setback on July 24 when a teammate inadvertently stepped on his right foot, causing a dislocated toe, ESPN reports. This incident has fueled speculation regarding his participation in the upcoming game, as head coach Glenn weighs the risks to prevent further injury. Nevertheless, Justin has openly stated his belief that participating in preseason games is crucial for sharpening his skills.
Justin Fields’ recent training performances with Jets raise doubts
While the season has yet to officially kick off, training sessions often serve as a crucial barometer for assessing a team’s capabilities and can even help decide the starting lineup. Justin Fields’ recent performances have generated considerable intrigue among fans. While his talent is evident, analysts emphasize that he still needs to build confidence.

Connor Hughes reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Justin Fields completed 9 of 17 passes with two interceptions during the training session on August 5. He also noted that Fields managed just 15 of 43 passes (34%) with two interceptions across his last three practices. Despite his recent arrival, Jets fans have found his performances underwhelming.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn backs Justin Fields amid growing fan criticism
Following the departure of veteran Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets fans eagerly anticipated that Justin Fields would make an immediate impact. However, his inconsistent performance in training has sparked doubts among the fanbase. Despite these concerns, head coach Aaron Glenn has expressed unwavering support for the young quarterback.
“I thought Justin did a really good job… I think we saw exactly what he’s going to create when it comes to him using his feet. There are some balls that we have to catch that he threw to some guys, and there’s some throws he’s got to make, too, that were out there,” Aaron Glenn said, as reported by New York Jets website.
Given this context, the preseason games offer Justin the ideal platform to silence his critics through standout performances. Moreover, he has emphasized that the key to gaining a competitive edge lies in taking a leadership role on the court. This still remains a decision for Glenn to make.
