NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers part ways with Aaron Rodgers’ potential star teammate in trade with Cowboys

In a stunning move that shakes up Pittsburgh's Super Bowl aspirations, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have parted ways with one of their top receivers, sending him to the Dallas Cowboys. The trade, which marks the end of a promising duo with Aaron Rodgers, leaves a massive void in the Steelers' roster.

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have made a blockbuster trade to send George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. After several weeks of rumors, the star wide receiver leaves the team in a highly controversial decision.

Before the move, the Steelers had one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL with Pickens and DK Metcalf. In fact, general manager Omar Khan said multiple times that they felt thrilled to have that combination on the field.

Now, Pittsburgh’s hopes of winning the Super Bowl have taken a serious hit, because despite his controversial behavior, George Pickens was one of the best players on the roster. In addition, the big question is whether this will affect the arrival of Aaron Rodgers.

What did the Steelers trade for George Pickens?

The Steelers will receive a third-round pick in the 2026 Draft and a fifth-round pick in 2027 in return for George Pickens. The Cowboys get the player and a sixth-round pick in 2027.

What’s certain is that the Steelers will need to find a replacement for Pickens, as once again, they’re left without depth at the position. Even though they signed Robert Woods and have confidence in Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson, it doesn’t seem enough to fill the gap left by a star who will now be a threat alongside Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
