Derek Carr made a major decision regarding the future of his career, officially announcing his retirement from professional football. From now on, it will be up to Kellen Moore to find his replacement as the New Orleans Saints prepare for the upcoming NFL season.

It won’t be an easy task, of course. Despite the former Raiders quarterback dealing with a serious shoulder injury that had cast doubt over his future, many still believed his return to the Saints roster was more than just wishful thinking.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, via his official account on X (formerly Twitter), Moore isn’t planning to name a direct replacement just yet. Instead, the Saints’ head coach is expected to give reps to the three quarterbacks currently on the roster.

“Saints HC Kellen Moore said they will rotate all their quarterbacks, give them all opportunities, as one tries to seize the starting job. ‘We’re going to let all three of these guys roll,’ Moore said. Each will be given the chance to win the Saints’ starting job,” the insider reported via @AdamSchefter.

At the moment, Moore’s three options at quarterback are Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, and Tyler Shough—the latter being a recent selection in the latest NFL Draft.

In a heartfelt message shared through his social media channels, the talented quarterback expressed his gratitude for all the support he’s received over the past few months. Carr also revealed that he feels blessed to have spent a total of eleven years in the NFL.

“Upon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League. For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience. It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unwavering support has meant the world to us.”
