Derek Carr aimed to become the franchise quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, but a series of injuries and underwhelming performances kept the veteran QB from living up to expectations. With the future still uncertain for the former Raiders signal-caller, the Saints’ front office has made a significant decision looking ahead to next NFL season.
The latest reports confirm the departure of Carr’s teammate, Ben DiNucci, who has officially been released by the franchise and will not be part of the roster led by new head coach Kellen Moore for the upcoming season.
The news was confirmed by DiNucci himself, who took to his official X account (formerly Twitter) to announce that the Saints have decided to move on without him.
“The NFL is a tough business. Always has been and always will be. Got released by the Saints this morning. Control what I can control and go back to work,” the former Cowboys player stated via @B_DiNucci6.

What’s next for Derek Carr in the upcoming NFL season?
There’s been plenty of speculation in recent weeks about Derek Carr’s future with the Saints. After a disappointing season, it was Carr himself who confirmed a major development that could shape the course of his career moving forward.
“Yes, I have to say this,” the QB started. “I hate that I have to say this, but I have to say this. Yes, I have a shoulder injury, despite what ESPN says. And what some lady on a podcast might think, OK? I have an MRI report to prove it. The team knows about it. We’ve been in constant communication. There’s nothing wrong. We’re figuring it out, and we’re gonna go forward with that. Is that OK?
“And I’ve been dealing with this, and I’ve been dealing with people lying about me and I’ve been dealing with them saying this and this and that, and I’m like, ‘Lord, why do I have to continue to deal with this nonsense? Like, what is going on?’ And I said that to a preface with you never know what someone’s really going through.“
Who will be the starting QB next season?
With Ben DiNucci gone and Derek Carr nursing a shoulder injury, the big question now is who will lead the Saints‘ offense come Week 1. Head coach Kellen Moore views Spencer Rattler as one of the top candidates, though recently drafted Tyler Shough remains very much in the mix.
