The Pittsburgh Steelers are having plenty of moves going around. The NFL is an unforgiving environment and while you may get massive contracts or high signing bonuses, you can also get cut on your day off. Mike Tomlin is trying to build a Super Bowl contender, but that meant one player had to be let go, and let’s just say the news were not well received.
Cordarrelle Patterson, who won the Super Bowl with New England back in 2018, was enjoying his day off until he received the news that his talents were no longer recquired at the black-and-gold facilities. He took to X to voice his frustrations.
“Breaking news!!! Pittsburgh Steelers release old washed up Cordarrelle Patterson on his day off!!!” Needless to say, the wideout/running back/ kick returner is not happy at all.
Patterson made a name for himself in the NFL thanks to his versatility. He was drafted as a wide receiver, but then he became a running back all while being an elite returner who made the Pro Bowl four times.
Patterson was not bad in Pittsburgh
The 34-year-old veteran played 13 games for the Steelers last year. He had 135 rushing yards averaging 4.2 yards per carry, while also adding 80 receiving yards and one touchdown. Patterson also racked up 240 return yards in 11 attempts.

He was the third running back on the depth chart behind Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, and he was more of a gadget guy than an actual wide receiver. However, there are not many players in the NFL with Patterson’s ability to play multiple positions.
His age is a concern as it means he is out of his prime, but he can still be a useful weapon for plenty of franchises. He is strong, fast and has experience. After all, he leads the NFL with most kick-return touchdowns in history. Someone will call him soon enough.
