The Denver Broncos have relied heavily on their defense in recent years. Now, head coach Sean Payton has decided to strengthen that unit even further by bringing in a former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback for the 2025 NFL season.
Since their Super Bowl 50 run, the Broncos have remained committed to building a strong defensive identity. While the offense is currently showing promise under Bo Nix’s leadership, it’s clear the defense has been the backbone of the team in recent seasons.
Sean Payton has embraced this philosophy since his arrival in Denver. Now, he’s reinforcing the defense once again by adding a new cornerback—one who previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Broncos sign new cornerback for the 2025 NFL season
Last year, the Broncos took a major step forward on offense with the arrival of Bo Nix. For many fans, he appears to be the franchise quarterback they’ve been waiting for after several years of instability at the position.
Payton, widely regarded as one of the NFL’s top coaches in recent years, understands the importance of balancing both sides of the ball. While the offense continues to develop, Denver’s defense remains its most dependable unit—and the coach is committed to keeping it that way.

On Wednesday, the Broncos announced the signing of Mario Goodrich for the 2025 season. Goodrich entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie in 2022, signing with the Eagles and appearing in four games with the current Super Bowl champions.
Most recently, Goodrich played the 2024 season in the UFL with the Birmingham Stallions, where he appeared in seven games. He recorded 17 tackles, one tackle for loss, six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles—an impressive showing that earned him another shot at the NFL.
