The NFL is often an open environment for all types of people to participate in the leagueâs various areas. Even in a field like cheerleading, which some believe is dominated only by women, men have been a part of the scene for several years now.
One of the teams that has both men and women working together as cheerleaders is the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Reports on the teamâs male cheerleaders date back to 2019 when they first held castings and selected Kyle Tanguay as a member of their cheerleading squad for home games.
Another team with a large number of male cheerleaders is the Baltimore Ravens. They have a total of 19 men on the squad, which will be a record for the 2025 season, according to a report from IndyStar.
NFL Teams with Male Cheerleaders
In total, 12 NFL teams have men on their cheerleading squads. Several of them are Super Bowl champions, including the Patriots, Chiefs, 49ers, and Rams. Many of these teams have had men as cheerleaders for years, and it hasnât been a major controversy, though there have been some negative comments.
- Minnesota Vikings
- Baltimore Ravens
- Los Angeles Rams
- New Orleans Saints
- Philadelphia Eagles
- San Francisco 49ers
- New England Patriots
- Tennessee Titans
- Indianapolis Colts
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Carolina Panthers
For now, itâs unknown when the other 20 teams will join the list, but year after year, more teams have been incorporating male cheerleaders. Itâs worth noting that only 25 teams have cheerleading squads; the Bills, Browns, Bears, Chargers, Giants, Jets, and Steelers do not.
A Strong Comment Against Male Cheerleaders
Although male cheerleaders are generally well-received among NFL fans, with no apparent issues, a recent comment from Will Cain, a former ESPN radio host, was seen as quite strong. He seems to disagree with teams having men working as cheerleaders alongside women.
âI donât have anything on male cheerleaders,â Cain said. âThere is something different with whatâs going on in the NFL cheerleaders. Weâre talking about male cheerleaders being female cheerleaders.â
