Although the Los Angeles Dodgers fell 4–3 to the Colorado Rockies, those at Coors Field witnessed another MLB milestone. What’s this story about? Shohei Ohtani extended his on-base streak to 50 consecutive games.

The Japanese star, in doing so, matched the achievement of “Wee” Willie Keeler, posting the third-longest streak in Dodgers history since 1900. Ohtani firmly etches his name into the franchise’s all-time history.

“I was hoping he’d get that last at-bat and give him an opportunity to change the game,” manager Dave Roberts said to the press. “And he found a way to get on base. It was good to see it, and that’s quite the streak. And you’ve got to be pretty dang good to do something like that. He’s in a class by himself.

Dodgers nearly let the game slip away

The Colorado Rockies defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. Despite early home runs from Kyle Tucker and Dalton Rushing that gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead, Colorado’s bullpen shut them down for the final seven innings.

The game finally was decided in the sixth inning when Troy Johnston hit a clutch two-run double to put the Rockies ahead for good.

More records for Ohtani

Since joining the franchise, Shohei Ohtani has completely rewritten the Dodgers’ record books. He holds the single-season franchise record for home runs (55) and extra-base hits (99), and he famously became the first player in MLB history to achieve a 50/50 season (54 HRs and 59 SBs) in 2024.
