The soccer season around the world is on hold, and Mexico is not the exception. Although the officials are still deciding what’s going to happen with the unfinished Clausura tournament, the teams are already thinking about the players they want to sign to strengthen their squads. That’s the case of Club América, which has at least four players in their shortlist.

One of them is the Argentina offensive midfielder Alejandro Romero Gamarra. The 25-year-old has been in América’s shortlist for quite some time. In fact, the club almost signed the player a year ago, before the beginning of the Clausura tournament 2019. Now, Romero Gamarra is playing for the New York Red Bulls of the MLS and his contract finishes in December.

América lost one of the best midfielders of the league when it sold Guido Rodríguez to Real Betis of Spain. The club hasn’t signed a replacement yet, but has a player in mind who can do Rodríguez’s job. His name is José Ignacio Rivero, currently playing for Club Tijuana of the Liga MX. The 27-year-old Uruguayan has been a regular first-team player for Tijuana since his arrival in the 2017/2018 season.

One of the biggest questions surrounding América is: what’s going to happen with Renato Ibarra? The Ecuadorian forward has been sidelined from the squad and will probably leave the club in the near future, although he still has a contract with the team. The thing is that manager Miguel Herrera has already someone in mind to replace him, and his name is Felipe Pardo. The 29-year-old Colombian winger plays for Toluca, where he arrived from Greece last year.

Last but not least is Rubens Sambueza. The experienced Argentine midfielder is going through his last years as a professional player and has always said that he would like to return to the team where the won two league titles and two CONCACAF Champions League trophies. The 36-year-old has currently a contract with Pachuca, but the club officials said they are willing to negotiate. Is he going to return to América?
