The USMNT’s fate has been decided in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as the U.S.A. is in Group B with England, Iran, and a third European opponent that will be decided between Wales, Scotland, or Ukraine. While the USMNT will need to wait until June to learn all three opponents, one of the teams they will play has an unfavorable history against the Americans.

The USMNT will play their first World Cup game on November 21st against the winner of the European playoff, then on Black Friday (November 25th) against England, and on November 29th against Iran in a rematch from France 1998.

Still one of the biggest condiments is that during the Thanksgiving holiday Americans and English Ex-Pats in the States will be on a day off from work and will be able to watch USMNT vs England on a special day for American commerce, Black Friday.

The USMNT first met England in the 1950 World Cup in Brazil and upset the English 1-0 but finished bottom of their group losing their other two games. Then in 2010 the USMNT tied England 1-1 on a Clint Dempsey goal and would go on to top the group over England in South Africa.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is an event the day after Thanksgiving that marks the start of the Holiday shopping season in the United States. Stores across the country offer discount sales and rock bottom prices that often result in stampedes in stores and fights outside malls.

Black Friday usually continues with Cyber Monday and some stores carry a Cyber Week on their websites.
