The Arkansas Razorbacks entered the college basketball season with high expectations. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like they were going to live up to them.



They got off to a dreadful start to conference play, with coach John Calipari drawing some steep criticism because of his team’s rather surprising shortcomings.



That’s why it was such a big surprise to see them take down Kansas and St. John’s. However, when asked about beating a fellow legend like Rick Pitino, coach Cal couldn’t care less.

“I didn’t care. It was about let’s just win because what these kids went through, they deserved good to happen because they came together,” he said. “They became one heartbeat.”

Pitino and St. John’s were the No. 2 seed, but Calipari wasn’t bothered by that. If anything, he believes his team is capable of everything after the way they rallied late in the season. 



<h2>Calipari had bigger concerns</h2>



“If you went through the year, we went through when we were 0-5, when we were 1-6, and they said they got no chance of making the NCAA tournament. When you’re playing games, you’re not worried about the other coach; you’re about survival,” he said.

Now, he can only focus on taking down the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Sweet 16 to continue his unlikely journey to the top. Only then will he be able to think about his rivalry with Pitino.

The Duke Blue Devils are the best team in the nation right now. They’re the No. 1 seed for a reason, and they’ve crushed their way to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.



Nonetheless, they’re not undefeated, and anything can happen in a win-or-go-home situation, which is why some are worried about their lack of experience at this stage.



Even so, as much as he acknowledges that they’ve been in some close games and have failed to execute at times,<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Cooper Flagg </a>believes that has only helped them build some character.



<h2>Cooper Flagg is unbothered by the skepticism</h2>



“I think what I would say is that we had some early close games,” Flagg said. “We’ve had some moments that we’ve been in throughout this year that I think we’ve kind of taken and learned from. And some were losses, I think all three of them. We had some good late-game situations that we definitely watched a lot of film on and learned from. I think just by executing and taking what we learned from those games.”

Flagg has been nothing short of spectacular this season, and he’s taken his game up a notch in the tournament. Despite being a freshman, he’s clearly not afraid of big moments.

Also, he knows this will be his only shot to win a National Championship before declaring for the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> Draft, so there’s clearly plenty of additional motivation right there.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights were perhaps the most disappointing team in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>last season. Despite having two future top-three picks in the NBA Draft, they didn’t even make the tournament.



It was sad to see Dylan Harper leave college without a shot at the ultimate glory. However, he won’t have too much time to cry over the spilled milk, as he’s about to turn pro.



With that in mind, Washington Wizards analyst Brandon Scott broke down why his team desperately needs to get him if they get a top-three pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, as projected.

“When you look at Dylan Harper’s intangibles, he screams Cade Cunningham or SGA (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander),” Scott wrote. “He’s 6’6 with a 6’10 wingspan. He can handle and score with both hands and when you look at the fact that he can play off-script when plays break down, he carries high basketball IQ. Other qualities that separate him are his ability to rebound and thrive in transition, both qualities that the Wizards Front Office likes.”

Of course, the Wizards already have a lead guard in Jordan Poole, but he’s miserably failed to establish himself as a franchise player, and they can always coexist on the backcourt.

Harper has the potential to be one of the best two-way players in the game, and given his <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA </a>heritage as Ron Harper’s son, you know he’s going to take pride in playing defense.

To say that this has been a tough season for the New Orleans Pelicans would be a huge understatement. They’ve struggled with injuries from the very beginning of the campaign.



Ironically, Zion Williamson has been mostly healthy, so he hasn’t been the problem. If there’s a silver lining, it is that the team will most likely get a top-three pick in the 2025 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA </a>Draft.



According to a report by Angelo Guinhawa of Hardwood Heroics, the Pelicans are projected to have the second-overall pick, and with it, a chance to draft Ace Bailey out of Rutgers.

Of course, some have doubts about Bailey’s shot selection and lack of perimetral stats, as he has a tendency to be a gunslinger who doesn’t get his teammates involved.

Then again, the potential is just too big to ignore, and with Brandon Ingram no longer there, the Pelicans could certainly use another big forward to pair with Zion Williamson.

Superstar guard JuJu Watkins sustained a season-ending knee injury. The timing couldn’t be worse, as her team could meet Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies in the Elite Eight.



That’s why, with Watkins out of the way, ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith believes it’s time for Bueckers to step up and prove that she’s the best player in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball.</a>

The controversial pundit doesn’t want to see the Huskies win games and leave it at that. He wants Bueckers to play like a superstar and put on a show for the viewers at home:



“It’s not just about winning games, losing games,” Smith continued. “It’s about people being box office and being star attractions… That’s what the expectation is going to be now, simply for us to be as intrigued as we anticipated we would be, because we knew what JuJu Watkins was gonna bring to the table.”

Fast forward to today, and that narrative hasn’t changed one bit. He’s averaged 18.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game for the season, leading his team in all major categories.



That’s why it’s not a surprise to see the Duke Blue Devils star being a finalist for the 2025 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year. As reported by Kevin Barbo of Athlon Sports, winning the award would make him a part of a very exclusive club.

Needless to say, that’s a very elite group of players to be a part of. And if that’s a predictor for success in the pros, then Flagg is going to be an NBA star in no time at all.

Of course, he needs to win the award first, but judging by the way he’s played this season and his unmatched popularity, it would be very difficult to bet against him right now.

The Arkansas Razorbacks have turned plenty of heads in the NCAA Tournament. Despite their inconsistency, they’ve still managed to get a couple of wins in the first rounds.



Now, they have a Sweet 16 date with Texas Tech. Notably, the Kentucky Wildcats have also reached this stage, and they will square off vs. Tennessee in the following round.



Both teams are on opposite sides of the bracket, so they could only face off in the tournament game. That’s why John Calipari couldn’t care less about what his former program is up to right now.

“No, not worried about them,” Calipari said on The Dan Patrick Show. “This is what’s happened for us. This season has been the most rewarding season I’ve had. Seasons where we won more games and won national titles and Final Fours and Elite Eights. I’ve had all those but what this team has been through to survive it, it’s been as rewarding as any season.”

At the end of the day, there’s no reason he should be looking over his shoulder and paying attention to other teams. It’s hard to win in this tournament as it is, so there’s no need to add more pressure.

Of course, having them face off at any point would be a major storyline. But until that happens — if it happens at all — Coach Cal should only focus on the task at hand.

The serious injury suffered by star JuJu Watkins in the last game, which will sideline her for at least the remainder of the season. But this isn’t over yet, and Kiki Iriafen knows they have the talent to make a statement.



Although an event like the one that sadly involved <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/juju-watkins">Watkins</a> and the Trojans’ hopes of moving forward may be a significant setback, within the program, they know the mindset of achieving great things remains intact.



In recent statements to the press, Iriafen expressed confidence heading into the matchup against the Kansas State Wildcats, which will determine the fate of Lindsay Gottlieb’s team in the current March Madness.



“I wouldn’t say this is our defining moment,” Iriafen said, as reported by Beth Harris of the Associated Press. “It’s what we expect of ourselves. We expect to win in this tournament regardless if it’s going our way, we have people, we don’t have people. That’s the standard here.”

<h2>Howell’s confidence for what’s ahead</h2>



The game against Mississippi State could have marked a turning point in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/usc">USC</a>‘s competition. Watkins’ severe injury and her subsequent exit from the game could have been a tough blow for the rest of the team.



Avery Howell was one of the many players who stepped up in that game, and after scoring 18 points (a career-high), she made it clear that confidence in the team’s ability to go far in this competition is something that is in abundance.



“We have a pretty big role this year,” Howell said to the press. “We’re prepared for most moments because of the time we’re given in games and how hard we work in practice.”

During the USC Trojans 2nd Round matchup with the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the NCAA Tournament, all the attention shifted towards sophomore guard <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/juju-watkins">JuJu Watkins</a>. The star in South California suffered a gruesome knee injury, which was later confirmed to be a torn ACL. As the 19-year-old is set to undergo surgery and endure a long recovery process, WNBA Hall of Famer and analyst Rebecca Lobo offered a discouraging update on Watkins’ potential return date from her injury.



Unfortunately, Watkins isn’t the first big talent to suffer an ACL injury, nor will she be the last. Fellow college basketball sensation, Paige Bueckers, tore her ACL in August 2022, causing her to miss the entire 2022-23 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> season, and so many other talents have gone through similar injuries, as well.



Lobo, who also suffered an ACL injury during his career, understands the struggles and repercussions such an incident can have on Watkins’ body and recovery. JuJu is eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft, and while the injury shouldn’t be a concern by the time she enters the league, Lobo shared a cautious message, suggesting that early reports on Watkins’ potential return for <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/usc">USC</a> may not be entirely accurate.



While most reports talk about a six-to-nine months recovery process, Lobo underlined recent examples of women <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">college basketball</a> stars, whose return date extended further, almost a year later.

“What we’ve seen, especially recently with high-level athletes in terms of women’s college basketball is it’s about a 12-month recovery process for them to get back on the court,” Lobo said, via On3. “First of all, emotionally, you’re torn. This is what every athlete dreams of, is this time of year and playing in the NCAA Tournament. And JuJu and her team had a realistic chance to win a national championship this year, so of course, there’s a lot of emotions and feelings there.“

<h2>Draft decision</h2>



These update from Lobo guides everybody to believe Watkins will miss the entire 2025-26 season, being a medical redshirt during her junior year of college basketball. Watkins would not lose her eligibility for the 2027 WNBA Draft, though she could also look forward to using her final year of eligibility in USC, and instead declaring for the 2028 WNBA Draft.

Dan Hurley is known for being one of the best coaches in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>. He led the UConn Huskies to two national championships in a row, and they had the third-longest win streak in NCAA Tourney history.



That win streak was snapped when his team lost in the second round to Florida. That led Hurley to throw a massive tantrum on the sidelines, and he went viral for that again.



He was spotted talking to the Baylor Bears, and he shared some NSFW words about officiating. That was yet another one of his many incidents, and that’s why Duke legend Jay Bilas thinks he needs to do better.

Yeah, I think the way he comports himself on the sideline should change,” he said on The Dan Patrick Show. “And I think some of the things that he says after a game, you know, like what we saw in the hallway, was that a huge deal? no. But is it what you should do? I think the answer is no, too. And look, I get it that the response is, ‘well, that’s just who he is.’ I tend to think that’s an excuse for bad behavior.”

Hurley has rarely been accountable for his team’s shortcomings. It’s always the players, the referees, or something else. As good a coach as he is, he also has to act like it.

Bueckers and the Huskies are striving to win the national championship for the first time in her <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> career. That’s also because she won’t have more opportunities to do so.



Recently, Huskies star Azzi Fudd shut down all speculation about Bueckers’ future, putting an end to all the rumors by saying that she will declare for the WNBA Draft.

Of course, this isn’t much of a surprise, as she’s projected to be the first player off the board. Nevertheless, there were rumors about her desire not to play for the Dallas Wings, the team currently in possession of that selection.

Watkins was currently on pace to break several of Clark’s records, including the all-time leading scorer in college basketball history. Needless to say, none of that matters right now.

The USC star is looking at a long time on the shelf, and she will potentially miss all of next season as well. This will be a huge blow for the Trojans, but it will also provide a big motivation boost.
