The Duke Blue Devils come off a disappointing elimination in the 2025 NCAA tournament Final Four. They lost to the Houston Cougars in the semifinals after a dramatic collapse opened the door for the Texas team to take the game and challenge the Florida Gators for the national championship.&nbsp;



Jon Scheyer and Co. are preparing to face another challenging <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> season, but they are also keeping tabs on potential new players. Jordan Smith Jr., a guard from Paul VI Catholic High School (Va.), has been on Scheyer’s wishlist for over a year. Smith is ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the country by 247 Sports and the highest-ranked player to have received an offer from Duke this window.&nbsp;



Smith is a sought-after guard with offers from many other programs, such as Arizona State, Arkansas, Florida State, George Mason, Georgetown, Kansas State, Louisville, Michigan, Villanova, and Virginia.&nbsp;

He will be active in the next couple of months, with visits to Arkansas scheduled on Sept. 20 and Kentucky on Oct. 11. Scheyer moved faster than that and visited Smith personally as soon as he had the chance.&nbsp;

Matt Giles of Duke Blue Devils on SI writes that Scheyer wanted to build on Jordan Smith Jr.’s visit from November. While he’s planning on visiting campus again, the coach decided to visit Smith at his home on Wednesday, the same day the open recruitment period began.&nbsp;



The Blue Devils had Cooper Flagg for the 2024-25 season and now have Cameron Boozer for the 2025-26 campaign. Scheyer could extend his notable recruiting win streak if Jordan Smith Jr. takes his offer.&nbsp;

The Duke Blue Devils will return to the court in the 2025-26 NCAA season with renewed expectations. After a dramatic collapse against the Houston Cougars in the 2025 NCAA tournament Final Four, Duke lost several players to the NBA, including Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel.&nbsp;



With Flagg out of the picture, they recruited another talented forward who is expected to lead the squad to another Final Four and perhaps a championship game. Cameron Boozer, son of Duke’s icon Carlos Boozer, joined the Blue Devils with his twin brother, Cayden, to continue with their family legacy in Durham.&nbsp;

“He’s like Paolo from a body perspective,” Scheyer said. “There’s differences in their game for sure, but Paolo, when he stepped on the floor, he always knocked people back with how big he was. I think Cam has the ability to do the same thing. He’s always been the biggest guy on the floor and now he gets a chance to play with Pat (Ngongba) and Maliq (Brown) where he’s not going to be the biggest guy. I think that’s a huge advantage for him, using his size and then having the ball skills of a guard.”



Their phenotype are very similar. Boozer is listed at 6-foot-9 and 250 pounds on Duke’s website, while Banchero, now with the Orlando Magic, was listed at 6-foot-10 and 250 pounds when he was with the Blue Devils.&nbsp; It remains to be seen how far he can go with the Blue Devils this season and if he can take them to the top of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>.&nbsp;

Sue Bird and Geno Auriemma developed a deep relationship from their time together on the UConn Huskies. The guard and the coach won two national championships together before she left for the WNBA, where she became one of the best players of all time and a four-time champion.&nbsp;

John Calipari will make a special return in the 2025-26 <a href="http://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>season, when he clashes with Memphis next October. Calipari and his Arkansas Razorbacks will face Memphis at the FedEx Forum for an exhibition game in the Hoops for St. Jude Tip Off Classic.&nbsp;



This game will mark Calipari’s first game in Memphis since he left the program in 2009 to coach the Kentucky Wildcats. The Oct. 27 game is scheduled for 8 p.m., right after a women’s exhibition game between Memphis and Vanderbilt.&nbsp;



Calipari coached the Tigers from 2000 through 2009, posting a 252-69 record that included a national championship game appearance while he coached future No. 1 pick Derrick Rose.&nbsp;Ahead of the special event, the former UNC Wilmington player shared his thoughts on it, sharing his excitement to return to Memphis to support a positive cause.

Bill Self has become one of the best <a href="http://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> coaches of all time during his 32-year career shared between Oral Roberts (55-54), Tulsa (72-27), Illinois (78-24), and his place in the world, Kansas (624-156).&nbsp;



Self has won two national championships in four Final Four appearances, while collecting two AP Coach of the Year and six Big 12 Coach of the Year awards, among others.&nbsp;



The 63-year-old coach received the ultimate recognition of his career in 2017, as he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Self was five years away from winning his second national championship, but his contributions to the game are bigger than that.&nbsp;

“When we all found out in April we were pretty overwhelmed with this but this didn’t actually hit me until we got to Springfield and being in this arena and seeing all the portraits, it’s very humbling,” Self said. “I’m very excited to be here this weekend and I’m so excited to be able to see people who have played a significant role in me having the opportunity to do what I do there (at Kansas).”

“I thought about leaving,” Hurley wrote. “Taking a gap year. Resigning as head coach of the UConn Huskies.”



He added that he constantly went back to the game and created scenarios where his team came out victorious.&nbsp;



“It was unhealthy to be ruminating this way. I was unhealthy. I desperately needed to get out of town, flee to my standard hideaway, Dorado Beach in San Juan. I needed to do some healing, not think about basketball for a few days. But that wasn’t possible in this new era. The transfer portal and NIL deals made every college player a free agent, so right after the tournament I needed to be in my office, in Storrs. If I left town right then, I wouldn’t have a team for the 2025-26 season. At that point, I wasn’t even sure that I would return for the 2025-26 season,” he added.



The Huskies enter the new season with renewed expectations, but the competition will be hard.&nbsp;But with Dan Hurley at the helm, they will always stand a chance.

Dwyane Wade is one of the latest basketball figures to share his opinion on the current state of college basketball, specifically in the Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals, which have changed the landscape of the competition, given all the opportunities it has provided to student-athletes.&nbsp;



Wade’s firstborn, Zaire, skipped college after playing high school basketball in Sierra Canyon and Brewster Academy. Instead, he entered the 2021 NBA G League Draft, where the Salt Lake City Stars picked him with the No. 10 overall selection.



The Miami Heat icon did go to college, as he spent two seasons with Marquette. He averaged 19.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game in 67 contests, shooting 49.4% from the field, 33.3% from deep and 74.5% from the free-throw line.

The three-time NBA champion noted how different things are now, compared to when he was in college.&nbsp;



“We’re in this era now where college sports are about the portal,” Wade said. “It’s about NIL. It’s about the collective. It’s about all these different things that we didn’t experience. Obviously, I didn’t even have to experience it. He didn’t go to college, but I didn’t. So, as a father, you have to put your sons in positions at this point.”



The NIL era has drawn strong responses from a lot of people. It doesn’t seem like it’s ending anytime soon, but it’s clear that some changes need to be made.

Jon Scheyer opened up on the Duke Blue Devils’ loss to the Houston Cougars in the 2025 NCAA tournament. The Blue Devils appeared to be set to play for the national championship until a last-minute collapse ruined all their plans.&nbsp;



After entering the final minute of the fourth quarter up 67-61, the team didn’t respond and opened the door for the Cougars to take over the game. Kon Knueppel missed a layup when the game, Sion James turned the ball over, Tyrese Proctor missed a free throw, and Cooper Flagg missed a layup, while the Cougars made the right plays and took advantage of the free throws to take a 70-67 win.&nbsp;



Scheyer could have taken this team, in Flagg’s first and only season with the program, to the championship game. Things didn’t go their way, and Scheyer finally talked about that game and how he dealt with such a massive loss.

“I felt that game as deeply as I’ve felt any game in my life,” Scheyer said. “You feel, actually, in a lot of respects, way more responsibility when you’re the head coach, even though you don’t have the ball in your hands down the stretch or throughout the course of the game. You feel like you’re responsible for every decision that’s being made in the game more. The 2025-26 NCAA season draws closer, and many have started sharing their predictions for teams and players. Rick Pitino is set to start his third season as St. John’s head coach after a solid 2025 campaign.
