Aaron Boone knows the New York Yankees are in a rough spot. And even though he recently opened up about his growing frustration with the team’s poor results, fans weren’t in a forgiving mood — hitting back hard on social media.
After the Yankees dropped Game 2 of the Subway Series against the Mets, Boone admitted, “It’s been a terrible week… As corny as it sounds, these are the moments that build character within a team,” referring to the team’s ongoing six-game losing streak.
The reaction was swift and harsh. Some fans called for the manager to be fired, while others mocked him with sarcastic takes. “The Yankees need to extend Aaron Boone’s contract so the team can have more stability,” wrote Bill Simmons.
No mercy for Boone
Boone’s comments about how tough the week has been didn’t just spark backlash toward him — they also reignited criticism of Yankees GM Brian Cashman and his leadership.

“Btw I don’t think firing Boone necessarily fixes anything, but if and when that day comes Brian Cashman should not be the one to get a chance to hire the next manager,” one fan posted on X. Another went after Cashman directly: “Hal Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman will go down in the history books as the clowns who wasted Aaron Judge.”

The Yankees’ downward spiral
Boone and the Yankees aren’t just being hammered for their six straight losses. The bigger concern is the team’s 6–16 record over their last 22 MLB games. They haven’t won a road series since June 13, when they wrapped one up against the Royals.
“The ‘It’s a tough stretch’ excuse is over. They are a very flawed team. They should consider selling off parts. They aren’t going to win anyway, and selling the fan base on anything other is disingenuous,” wrote Dean Haigh on X.
