The Los Angeles Lakers season has been a disaster from top to bottom. And even though you should never blame one player for that, the fans have really had their way with Russell Westbrook lately.
Westbrook has failed to live up to the expectations and has constantly claimed that he doesn’t care about the boos, the fans, or even winning an NBA championship. Now, however, it seems like they’ve finally gotten under his skin.
Russell’s wife Nina recently called out Lakers fans for harassing them and even sending death wishes their way. But more than that, it’s the ‘Westbrick’ nickname that has really bothered the former MVP.
Russell Westbrook Says He Will No Longer Tolerate The ‘Westbrick’ Nickname

“It really hit me the other day. Me and wife were at the teacher-parent conference for my son. And the teacher told me, Noah is so proud of his last name, he writes it everywhere, he tells everyone ‘I’m Westbrook’… I kind of sat there in shock and it hit me. I can’t no longer allow people, for example, Westbrick to me is now shaming, shaming my name and my legacy for my kid. It’s a name that means more to me, my wife, my mom, my dad, the ones that paved the way for me.”
“That’s just one example myself and my wife where its not great and I think a lot of times, I let it slide, but now its time to put a stop to that, and put it on notice, there’s a difference. Every time I hear it now, I will make sure I address it and nip that in the bud… It’s very unfortunate, it’s been like this for my entire career.”
Shannon Sharpe Doesn’t Feel Sorry For Him
However, NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe has zero sympathy for Westbrook. For him, the fans never crossed the line and he just oughta step up and silence his critics on the court. It’s as simple as that.
“Zero [sympathy],” Sharpe sentenced.“Play better. They didn’t call him boy. They didn’t call him a monkey… They called him Westbrick, because it seems like everything that he shoots is a brick.”
Westbrook has spent his entire career with an ill attitude towards most fans and the media, claiming to be unfazed by them, so it’s kind of shocking to see him take that stance now. But as long as the fans keep it classy, he’ll just have to deal with it.
