Aaron Rodgers has left Mike Tomlin’s coaching staff very satisfied during training camp. According to a report from Bob Labriola, the Pittsburgh Steelers are confident with what they’ve seen from the veteran quarterback, and therefore there will be no need for him to play in the preseason. Very promising news for the team’s fans.

“All I can tell you is what I saw every day during practice at Saint Vincent College. Overall, I thought Aaron Rodgers looked in command and comfortable with the offense, and he was given only one day off over the course of 14 practices between July 24 and August 12. Rodgers made some incredible throws. He moved around freely in buying time to make his throws. He was as consistently on target as anyone I ever had seen in a training camp setting.”

Many experts expected a transitional year in Pittsburgh, but the Steelers have publicly stated that their goal is to compete for the Super Bowl this season. To that end, in addition to Rodgers, general manager Omar Khan has been aggressive in bringing in DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith, and Darius Slay.

Aaron Rodgers’ effect in Pittsburgh

Labriola points out that Aaron Rodgers didn’t complete irrelevant passes during Steelers training camp just to boost his stats or look good. On the contrary, the quarterback attempted the most difficult throws possible against a secondary that could be one of the best in the NFL.

“I also will point out that Aaron Rodgers wasn’t dinking and dunking to pad any ‘imaginary’ camp stats. He was working the ball down the field and in the middle of the field against a secondary that’s going to show itself to be athletic and competitive this season. My opinion is that if the Steelers offense struggles early in the regular season it will be because of something other than the quarterback play.”
