Trey McBride made headlines in recent hours after becoming the highest-paid tight end in the league. The Arizona Cardinals player has been a key piece in Kyler Murrayâs offense, and together, they aim to be serious contenders in the upcoming NFL season.
The significance of McBrideâs achievement led to his own quarterback being one of the first to call him, congratulating him after securing one of his key weapons in Jonathan Gannonâs squad for a few more years.
âKyler, one of the first guys I talked to, FaceTimed me,â the TE said via NFL.com. âWe were able to talk, just rejoice. Really just how excited we are to play with each other for a few more years, to grow, to win, to do all the things that we want to do together. To know that me and him will be here together for a long time was very special.â
The playerâs emotion after reaching this milestone led him to reflect on his time in his small town in Colorado, and how he reached this point in his career where he became the highest-paid player in the NFL at his position.

Trey McBride #85 of the Arizona Cardinals celebrates a touchdown with Kyler Murray #1 during the third quarter against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on December 28, 2024 in Inglewood, California.
âI come from a small town in Colorado,â McBride said. âTo go play Division I college football is a huge deal. To be the highest-paid tight end from Fort Morgan, I mean, gosh, itâs just the biggest honor. Itâs so cool, itâs very special. If you wouldâve told me I wouldâve been the highest paid, I wouldâve never believed you. Just comes with so much hard work, so much grit, all the above. Itâs finally paid off. But more importantly, Iâm excited to keep working, to keep grinding and continue to build on that.â
McBrideâs goals moving forward
Terry McBride signed a lucrative contract extension, even surpassing Travis Kelce, and from now on, his goals are focused on the field. The Arizona Cardinals aim to become the next big contenders in the NFC West, and the tight end is fully aware of this.
âThatâs the expectation now,â he said to the press. âWe have the foundation built. Weâre built right where we need to be, so now itâs like, we gotta go now, thereâs no more waiting anymore.â
âItâs awesome, I feel like Iâm just breaking the surface of where I can play, and where I can be,â McBride said also added. âI feel like the upside is still there, thereâs so much. The skyâs the limit, really. Especially with Kyler playing quarterback, we have so much connection. Everything is just trending in the right direction.â
