The significance of McBride’s achievement led to his own quarterback being one of the first to call him, congratulating him after securing one of his key weapons in Jonathan Gannon’s squad for a few more years.

“Kyler, one of the first guys I talked to, FaceTimed me,” the TE said via NFL.com. “We were able to talk, just rejoice. Really just how excited we are to play with each other for a few more years, to grow, to win, to do all the things that we want to do together. To know that me and him will be here together for a long time was very special.“

The player’s emotion after reaching this milestone led him to reflect on his time in his small town in Colorado, and how he reached this point in his career where he became the highest-paid player in the NFL at his position.

“I come from a small town in Colorado,” McBride said. “To go play Division I college football is a huge deal. To be the highest-paid tight end from Fort Morgan, I mean, gosh, it’s just the biggest honor. It’s so cool, it’s very special. If you would’ve told me I would’ve been the highest paid, I would’ve never believed you. Just comes with so much hard work, so much grit, all the above. It’s finally paid off. But more importantly, I’m excited to keep working, to keep grinding and continue to build on that.”

McBride’s goals moving forward

Terry McBride signed a lucrative contract extension, even surpassing Travis Kelce, and from now on, his goals are focused on the field. The Arizona Cardinals aim to become the next big contenders in the NFC West, and the tight end is fully aware of this.

“That’s the expectation now,” he said to the press. “We have the foundation built. We’re built right where we need to be, so now it’s like, we gotta go now, there’s no more waiting anymore.”

“It’s awesome, I feel like I’m just breaking the surface of where I can play, and where I can be,” McBride said also added. “I feel like the upside is still there, there’s so much. The sky’s the limit, really. Especially with Kyler playing quarterback, we have so much connection. Everything is just trending in the right direction.“
