NFL News: Mike Tomlin and Steelers’ latest stance reportedly reveals if George Pickens could be traded to Cowboys

Amid growing trade rumors, the Steelers' latest stance, backed by Mike Tomlin, has reportedly shed light on George Pickens' future, including whether a potential move to the Dallas Cowboys is truly on the table.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys have been rumored to be in talks for a potential blockbuster trade for George Pickens. However, according to a report by Adam Schefter, that move is far from materializing.

ā€œRight now, I don’t view it as viable. That certainly could change. I think that they’ve brought it up, but I don’t think that there’s a team out there that’s willing to give up what Pittsburgh would need to part ways with a wide receiver as talented as George Pickens. I think Pittsburgh would listen. I think Pittsburgh has listened and I don’t think anything’s come close to happening with him.ā€

While the Steelers wait on Aaron Rodgers, one of their potential goals could be to recover the second-round pick they gave up in the trade with Seattle for DK Metcalf. Considering there are currently no plans to offer George Pickens a contract extension, general manager Omar Khan may look to get at least that price in return.

Will Steelers give George Pickens a contract extension?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have shown no signs of wanting to offer George Pickens a contract extension. The star wide receiver is entering the final year of his rookie deal and, due to his high potential, could demand to be among the highest-paid in the NFL.

However, the Steelers have already given DK Metcalf a five-year, $150 million contract, so paying another wide receiver $30 million per year seems highly unlikely. Given this scenario, Schefter reports that Pittsburgh will continue listening to trade offers.

ā€œI think the Steelers are open to listening on George Pickens. I think it’s not a simple deal to pull off. You’re talking about a very talented wide receiver, but somebody who has had some punctuality issues.ā€
