Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers had an impressive performance in their first preseason game, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-25 on the road. Aaron Rodgers did not play, but the quarterback room had an extraordinary night.
Mason Rudolph completed 9 of 10 passes for 84 yards and one touchdown. However, the big star was Skylar Thompson with a fantastic stat line: 20 of 28, 233 yards, and three touchdowns.
The Steelers are trying to be Super Bowl contenders with additions like Rodgers, DK Metcalf, and Jalen Ramsey, but in a key factor, roster depth can be crucial, and for that, the preseason is the best showcase.
Who got injured with Pittsburgh Steelers?
Mike Tomlin confirmed that the only injured player for the Steelers after the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars was Cam McCutcheon. The defensive back was taken out with a hamstring injury. Overall, the head coach was pleased with his team’s performance.
“It was really a good evening’s work. We got put in a lot of situations and got a chance to watch people perform in them. Two-minute drive before the half kind of highlighting some of that. I thought we did a nice job of not beating our own butt. We kept pre-snap penalties virtually to a minimum. I think we had one. We played a pretty clean game for a first time out. We gave a lot of people a lot of opportunities and that’s what this is about. To top it all off, we kind of got through the game virtually injury-free. I think Cam McCutcheon got taken out with a soft tissue injury, maybe a hamstring that needs to be evaluated. Other than that, we’re pretty clean. So, a productive night on a lot of fronts.”
