Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are ready to begin a new era with Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback. After a disappointing stint with the Jets, the veteran has done everything possible to quickly adapt to offensive coordinator Arthur Smithâs system.
During the offseason, the roster has undergone many changes on that side of the ball. Najee Harris went to the Chargers, so Jaylen Warren will be the starter at running back. George Pickens was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, DK Metcalf was signed as the biggest splash in free agency, and Omar Khan made a surprising trade for tight end Jonnu Smith.
Given this shakeup, many fans and experts expected Rodgers to be very active in the preseason, trying to lay the foundation to build a Super Bowl contender. However, Tomlin might have other plans.
Will Aaron Rodgers play for Steelers in preseason?
No. It seems that Aaron Rodgers wonât play a single snap in the preseason with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Tomlin hinted at this possibility during an exclusive interview with Bob Labriola.
This was Tomlinâs response when he was asked if he would be one of the coaches in 2025 to consider not giving his quarterback any playing time during the entire preseason.

âYou might be looking at one in 2025. Hey, this guy has been doing this for 21 years. His cumulative snap total and whatâs required for him to be ready is different than others. And so if Iâm not adaptable and open to adjustments relative to the needs of our guys, then Iâm not doing my job. So, you might be looking at one of those coaches in 2025.â
