Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to receive a definitive response from Aaron Rodgers, but that is not preventing them from making moves ahead of the 2025 NFL season. In an effort to improve their offensive line, the team signed a former teammate of C.J. Stroud on the Houston Texans.

On Wednesday, May 21, the Steelers announced that they signed guard Nick Broeker. Though the terms of the deal haven’t been revealed, the team did inform that the contract is valid for the 2025 NFL season.

Selected by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Ole Miss product spent only a few months with Josh Allen and company as a rookie before being waived.

It didn’t take him long to find a new home in Houston, as Broeker went on to make 12 appearances in two years with Stroud’s team. Nine of the games he played in a Texans uniform came last season, so he’s moving to Pittsburgh aiming to build on increased playing time.

A corresponding roster move in Pittsburgh

With Broeker on board, the Steelers released offensive lineman Lecitus Smith in a corresponding move. Even so, Rodgers won’t be lacking in protection in the event he decides to play for Tomlin.

Apart from Broeker, the Steelers have plenty of options in their offensive line with Isaac Seumalo, Mason McCormick, Spencer Anderson, Max Scharping, Aiden Williams, and Steven Jones all under contract.

What is Aaron Rodgers doing this year?

Rodgers has yet to confirm his intention for the 2025 NFL season. Tomlin has been patient all this time, hoping to have the 41-year-old leading the Steelers’ offense in 2025. Unless he decides to retire, chances are that the four-time league MVP ends up playing in Pittsburgh.
