It’s the dawn of a new era for the New York Giants. After years of failing to make the playoffs and having one of the worst offenses in the NFL, Brian Daboll is hopeful that he can change that philosophy right away.
Needless to say, a lot of that will have to do with their quarterback. Daniel Jones has been unimpressive throughout his first years in the league and his job isn’t safe anymore for the first time in his career.
The Giants are reportedly looking to bring in some competition to motivate Jones or flat-out replacement, which is why they could look to sign Mitchell Trubisky, a former second-overall pick by the Chicago Bears.
NFL Rumors: New York Giants Could Sign Mitchell Trubisky
“Mitchell Trubisky is expected to have more choices during free agency than he had a year ago when he signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal to back up Josh Allen in Buffalo,” Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk reported. “This year, Trubisky will have a chance to compete for a starting job somewhere. It could be the Giants.”
Trubisky Talked About Potentially Joining The Giants
Trubisky recently raved about his time playing behind Josh Allen and for Brian Daboll, who served as the Bills’ offensive coordinator at that time. He also talked about NYC and how he’s looking forward to watching what Daboll can do for the team:
“I had so much fun with Josh and really Davis Webb and our whole quarterback room,” Trubisky said, per NJ AdvanceMedia.“Learning from (Bills offensive coordinator) Ken Dorsey, Brian Daboll’s offense and Shea Tierney as well.”
“I think of coach Daboll right away just because of my connection with him right away in Buffalo,” Trubisky added. “I’m excited to see what he does in New York. I don’t know where I’m gonna go, but I know whatever he does there, he’s going to do a great job with that offense. He’s a great leader of men. He’s real and authentic with all the guys, and I think that’s why so many people respected him in our building. I’m excited to see what he’s going to do.
“And then of course, New York, you think of the city. I haven’t been to New York many times, but you think of big New York City and the Giants,” the QB concluded. “I know coach Daboll will do a great job, and I’m excited to see that offense.”
Trubisky did have a solid rookie season with the Bears before falling from grace and eventually being let go, and it’s not like Jones has done any merits to be the undisputed starter for the Giants anyway.
