Paul Maurice is not satisfied with the Florida Panthers‘ performance so far in the series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Starting with two consecutive losses leaves no room for error in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs for a team that counts Brad Marchand as one of its top stars.

The Maple Leafs showed character by defeating the Panthers 4-3 in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Second Round at Scotiabank Arena. Mitch Marner was the hero for Toronto, breaking the tie in the third period.

The good news for the Panthers was that Marchand scored his first goal of the playoffs, giving a temporary 2-1 lead just 15 seconds into the second period. However, Florida couldn’t hold on to the win. For Maurice, things need to change quickly.

“We didn’t love our Game 1 but we liked our game here tonight. We came out on the road and lost two games, but we get to go back home now. There will be lots of stuff we like about our game that we think we can improve on and do more with. We will take a look at it and get better,” Florida coach Paul Maurice warned to the Maple Leafs, according to NHL.com.

Maurice knows that a playoff series is decided by the smallest details. The Panthers’ head coach will need to keep trusting in Marchand’s potential, as well as in other stars like Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett, who have already proven they have what it takes to become champions this season.

A player with Marchand’s experience is ideal for making quick adjustments and helping steer the Panthers back into a winning position in the series. “Their biggest threat is that they are very good on the rush. You have to be above them. It seemed like every time we gave them the opportunity to get above us, they created something and capitalized on it. It just shows how dangerous they are,” Marchand said.
