Kylian Mbappe scored a hat trick in Real Madrid’s 4–3 loss to Barcelona in La Liga, in his fourth Clasico. Despite the French star’s best efforts, the Blaugranas won all of their matches against Los Blancos this season. Still, Mbappe’s performance stands out when compared to the records of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in El Clasico.
Ronaldo has scored 20 goals against Barcelona, including his time with Juventus, but he never managed a hat trick against the Blaugranas. The Portuguese forward has recorded a brace on three occasions.
By contrast, Lionel Messi has scored two hat tricks against Real Madrid. The Argentine needed just three Clasicos to register his first treble against Los Blancos, which was also the first hat trick of his professional career. That first came on March 10, 2007, in a 3–3 draw at Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, his second was during the 2013–14 season, helping Barcelona to a 4–3 win at the Santiago Bernabeu. In total, Messi has scored 26 goals against Madrid, including five braces.

According to MisterChip, Mbappe is the first player in Clasico history to score a hat trick in a match his team lost. Despite the result, the French striker, who currently leads the La Liga scoring chart, has set a remarkable record.

Mbappe is also the first player to score two hat tricks as a visiting player at Barcelona’s home stadium. He first did it in 2021 at Camp Nou with PSG, in his first encounter against Barcelona, and now again at Montjuïc with Madrid.
According to MisterChip, he joins a short list of Real Madrid players who have scored a hat trick at Barcelona’s home. The others are Ferenc Puskás in 1963 and Karim Benzema, who did it in the 2023 Copa del Rey.
In total, Mbappe has an excellent record against the Blaugranas. In eight encounters against them, he has scored 11 goals, both with Madrid and PSG, including six in Champions League.
