Alex Bregman watched firsthand as Garrett Crochet delivered yet another strong outing for the Red Sox — this time helping Boston avoid a sweep against the Cubs and snapping a brief losing streak in the process. After the game, Bregman spoke about how confident the team feels with Crochet on the mound.
“When you need a stopper, he’s a stopper,” Bregman said. “When you need somebody to keep it going, he keeps it going. When you need someone to set the tone and be the ace of the staff, that’s what he’s done.”
Crochet has been sharp all year, now sitting at an 11–4 record. His last four starts have all been wins — two of them coming during Boston’s 10-game winning streak between July 4 and July 13, including victories over the Nationals and Rays.
Bregman relieved to have Crochet leading the staff
Bregman didn’t hold back in emphasizing Crochet’s importance: “He’s delivered time and time again all year long,” he said. “And we feel very confident every time he takes the hill that we have a really good chance to win.”
The Red Sox rotation has been solid overall, but Crochet has clearly emerged as the ace. Through 21 starts, he owns a 2.19 ERA — the best on the staff. Brayan Bello ranks second with a 3.23 ERA, followed by Lucas Giolito at 3.59.
